Chapter 6 - The High-Speed Chase Down Route 1The tires of Clara’s battered sedan shrieked as she spun out of the Newport General parking garage, flooring the gas pedal just as the security gate arm splintered against her hood.

In her rearview mirror, she saw the two guards bursting through the glass doors, shouting into their radios and pointing frantically at her car.

"Hold on, Leo!" Clara yelled over the roar of the engine as she whipped the sedan onto Route 1 North, heading toward the Massachusetts border.

In the passenger seat, Leo clutched the armrests, his knuckles white. But for the first time in his life, there was no fear in his eyes—only a fierce, desperate spark of hope. He looked down at the manila envelope Clara had tossed onto his lap.

"What's in here?" he asked, his voice steady despite the high-speed turns.

"Your father's voice," Clara replied, keeping her eyes glued to the dark, rain-slicked highway. "And the proof of who really tore your family apart."

Before Leo could open the envelope, a pair of blinding high beams filled their rear window.

A sleek, black Cadillac Escalade—completely unmarked, with tinted windows and reinforced steel bumpers—roared out from a side street, slamming onto their tail. It accelerated with terrifying speed, surging directly toward their bumper.

Thud!

The SUV rammed the rear of Clara’s sedan, sending the car fishtailing across the wet asphalt.

"They're trying to run us off the road!" Leo cried out, bracing himself against the dashboard.

"Not today they aren't," Clara snarled.

She downshifted aggressively, steering into the skid as she aimed the sedan toward the narrow, winding backroads of the old coastal reserve—a network of dense pine forests and unpaved logging trails where heavy SUVs couldn't maneuver as easily as her lighter, beaten-down car.

The Cadillac charged right behind them, its engine roaring like a caged beast, determined to bury Clara and the rightful heir of Sterling Enterprises deep in the Rhode Island woods forever.
