Chapter 10 - A New DawnThe front doors of the Carter family estate opened wide, welcoming the warm afternoon breeze that swept across the sprawling Virginia lawns.

There were no security sirens. No flashing lights of federal vans. No oppressive shadows of fear or isolation lingering in the grand foyer.
Instead, the house was filled with the soft, gentle cooing of a newborn baby girl resting peacefully in her newly decorated nursery—a room painted in bright, cheerful shades of pale blue and gold, bathed in sunlight.
I stood by the large bay window, looking out over the manicured gardens where my father was playing catch with our loyal driver, Maria, who was laughing brightly as she tossed a soft baseball back toward him.
The past felt like a distant, hazy nightmare—a dark storm that had tested every fiber of my being, but ultimately proved just how unbreakable I truly was.
Dad walked into the nursery quietly, stepping softly across the hardwood floor until he stood beside me at the window. He looked down at the baby sleeping soundly in my arms, a soft, tender smile gracing his weathered face.
"She has your eyes, Nora," he whispered gently.
"And your stubborn streak, Dad," I replied, leaning my head against his shoulder.
Dad wrapped his arm around my shoulders, pulling me close in a warm, protective embrace. "No matter what comes our way, sweetheart... you and your daughter will never have to stand alone again."
I looked down at my little girl, gently brushing a soft lock of hair from her forehead. The navy dress I wore today wasn't a shield against abuse or a costume to hide a lie. It was a badge of survival, of freedom, and of a brand new beginning.
