Chapter 8 - A New Dawn

The bedroom fell into a heavy, suffocating silence, broken only by the sound of my ragged breathing and little Leo’s soft whimpers.

Lorenzo dropped Marcus’s discarded pistol, kicked the unconscious man aside like trash, and rushed across the room toward me. He didn't say a word; he simply pulled both Leo and me into his arms, wrapping his broad, trembling frame around us as if he could shield us from every evil in the world.

"Are you hurt?" Lorenzo asked, his voice cracking slightly as his hands searched my face and shoulders for any sign of injury. "Did he touch you?"

"I'm okay," I sobbed, burying my face against his chest, finally letting the wall of terror crumble away. "We're okay. Leo is safe."

Lorenzo held us tighter, burying his face in my hair. "Kaelen!" he shouted toward the hallway. "Clean up this trash. Make sure he never sees the light of day again."

"Right away, Boss," Kaelen’s voice echoed from the corridor as security guards rushed in to drag Marcus’s limp body away.

The shattered glass was cleared, the broken furniture replaced, and by morning, the estate was bathed in the warm, golden glow of a new sunrise.

We sat together on the wide balcony overlooking the sprawling gardens of the Rossi estate. Leo was wide awake now, cooing happily as he played with the shiny gold buttons of Lorenzo’s vest.

Lorenzo looked down at the baby, then raised his dark, intense eyes to meet mine. The ruthless mafia boss—the legend whispered about in fear across the entire country—looked softer, more complete than I had ever seen him.

"You saved my son," Lorenzo said softly, taking my hand in his calloused, warm palm. "And then you stood your ground against monsters from your past. You are the strongest woman I have ever known, Sarah."

"And you saved us," I replied, a gentle smile touching my lips as I leaned my head against his shoulder. "Though I think we make a pretty dangerous team, Mr. Rossi."

Lorenzo smiled—a genuine, warm, devastatingly handsome smile that I had never seen before that night. He intertwined his fingers with mine, lifting our joined hands while Leo giggled happily between us.

"Drop the 'Mr. Rossi'," he whispered, pressing a tender, lingering kiss to the back of my hand. "It's Lorenzo. And home is wherever you and this little boy are."

As the morning sun broke fully over the estate, I realized that the nightmare of my past was finally over. The empty space in my arms had been filled, not just by a miracle baby who needed me to survive, but by a man who loved us both enough to burn the world down to keep us safe.
