Chapter 2 - The Midnight BlueprintThe heavy oak doors of the Reyes estate library were closed tightly, but under the crack at the bottom, a thin beam of pale moonlight filtered across the Persian rug.

I sat at the antique mahogany writing desk, my laptop screen dimmed to its lowest setting, reviewing the forensic financial audit I had been compiling for the past six months. Every single transaction, every forged signature, and every shell company account was neatly cataloged in encrypted folders.
Suddenly, a soft, tentative knock tapped against the library door.
I froze, quickly minimizing my workspace. “Come in.”
The door creaked open just an inch. Seven-year-old Lucía slipped into the room like a quiet shadow, her oversized cotton pajamas dragging slightly on the floor. Her dark eyes were wide, alert, and filled with a fierce, quiet courage that no seven-year-old child should ever have to possess.
She walked straight up to my chair, reached behind her back, and pulled out a folded piece of heavy, cream-colored stationery.
It wasn't a crayon drawing this time.
It was a real document.
“Aunt Camila,” Lucía whispered, her small voice trembling slightly. “She went to Grandpa’s safe behind the portrait in the study. She used the key from her necklace.”
I took the paper from her small hands with trembling fingers. I unfolded it carefully.
My breath caught in my throat.
It was our late father’s true, unexecuted final will and testament—the legal document that had mysteriously vanished the week after his funeral. Bolded at the top, crossed out with thick black marker, and overwritten in Victoria’s sharp handwriting was a complete redistribution of the Reyes Development estate: transferring eighty percent of voting shares and property trusts directly to Victoria Santos, leaving my brother Alejandro with nothing.
“She hid it in her vanity drawer under the velvet jewelry trays,” Lucía whispered, looking up at me with absolute trust. “She said if I ever told Daddy, she would send me away to boarding school forever.”

I gently knelt down, placing my hands on Lucía’s small shoulders.
“You did the bravest thing in the world, sweetheart,” I said softly, fighting back a surge of fierce protective anger. “You never have to be afraid of her again. I promise you.”
