Chapter 4 - The Breakfast Ambush“Digital signatures are convenient,” I remarked aloud, looking directly at Victoria across the table. “They let you sign documents without ever needing a pen. Or, more importantly, without the actual owner realizing what they're agreeing to.”

Victoria set her glass down with a sharp clink. “Camila, if you have something to accuse me of, spit it out. Otherwise, keep your bitter, unemployed opinions to yourself.”

Alejandro sighed, dropping his head in his hands. “Can we please have one morning without this hostility? Camila, Victoria has been a pillar of strength for this family since Dad passed away. Why can't you just accept that?”

“Because the pillar is rotten, Alejandro,” I said, my voice dropping an octave into a tone of absolute, chilling calm.

Victoria stood up, her face flushing crimson with righteous indignation. “Alejandro! Are you going to sit there and let your sister insult me in my own home—in front of the child?!”

Lucía shrunk back in her chair, her small hands gripping the edge of the table.

“She’s not insulting you, Victoria,” I said, standing up slowly and resting my hands flat on the table, leaning forward. “She’s exposing you.”

I reached into my blazer pocket, pulled out the manila folder containing high-resolution printouts of the scanned will, and slid it across the mahogany table directly in front of my brother.

“Open it, Alejandro,” I commanded quietly. “Look at what your beloved fiancée has been hiding in her vanity drawer.”

Alejandro, exasperated and furious, snatched the folder off the table and ripped the flap open.

He pulled out the document.

His eyes scanned the first paragraph. Then the second.

The color drained from Alejandro’s face so fast it looked as though all the blood had been violently sucked from his body. His hands began to shake so violently the paper rustled loudly in the quiet room.

“Victoria…” Alejandro whispered, his voice cracking into a broken, disbelieving gasp. “Victoria… why does she know about the will?”

The room froze solid.
