Chapter 25 - The Final Horizon

One week later, the federal authorities in Rome and Palermo executed a coordinated raid on Salvatore Rossi’s primary villa in Sicily, freezing every remaining asset and arresting the aging patriarch on a dozen counts of international racketeering and financial fraud.

The threat was permanently neutralized. The New York underworld fell back into a deep, respectful silence, leaving the Moretti estate untouched by violence or fear.

On a bright, crisp Sunday morning in late October, the Westchester lawns were once again filled with the sound of laughter.

Lily, now growing into a bright, fearless young girl with her mother’s sharp intuition and her father’s unshakeable resolve, was running through the autumn leaves with Ethan, chasing a golden retriever puppy Dominic had surprised her with the night before.

I stood on the stone patio, leaning against the balcony railing, watching the sun break through the golden canopy of the Hudson Valley trees.

Dominic walked out from the study, holding two cups of hot coffee. He handed one to me, slipping his arm around my shoulders as we watched the children play in the crisp morning light.

“The federal prosecutor called this morning,” Dominic said softly, taking a sip of his coffee. “Rossi took a plea deal. He’ll spend the rest of his life in a maximum-security prison in Sardinia.”

“Then it’s really over,” I whispered, turning my face to look up at him.

“It’s over,” Dominic confirmed, a warm, genuine smile breaking across his handsome face. He reached out, gently brushing a lock of hair from my cheek. “No more shadows. No more hiding. Just us.”

I smiled, leaning my head against his shoulder as the golden sunlight washed over the estate, illuminating the iron gates that now protected a home built not on fear, but on an unbreakable, eternal love.
