Chapter 5 - The Ultimate LeverageThe red laser dot danced unsteadily against the fabric of Arthur’s suit jacket, a silent, deadly reminder that sniper scopes were locked onto them from the neighboring skyscraper.

Yet, Arthur Whitmore did not flinch. He stood tall, his posture unyielding, staring down his former partner with a chilling composure.
“You think a few billion dollars and a sniper rifle makes you a king, Richard?” Arthur asked, his voice steady and calm. “You’re still the same desperate coward who tried to shortcut his way to the top.”
“Call me whatever you want, Arthur,” Richard sneered, his thumb hovering over the execution button on his tablet. “With four billion dollars transferred into decentralized smart contracts, and every digital asset of Whitmore Global locked behind an uncrackable quantum encryption algorithm, I am the king now. And you are a beggar.”
“Dad…” Elena whispered, grabbing his arm. Her knuckles were white. “What do we do?”
Arthur didn't look at her; his eyes remained fixed on Richard. But a faint, almost imperceptible smirk touched the corner of Arthur’s mouth.
“You forgot one fundamental rule of high finance, Richard,” Arthur said smoothly.
Richard frowned, his finger pausing. “What are you talking about?”
“Never trust a system you didn't build yourself,” Arthur replied.
Before Richard could process the warning, a series of sharp, rhythmic clicks echoed across the helipad. From the shadows behind the stairwell access door, half a dozen heavily armed tactical operatives emerged, their weapons raised and laser sights locked squarely on Richard.
At the same time, the tablet in Richard’s hand began to beep frantically. The screen flashed bright crimson, replaced by a massive skull logo and a single word: ACCESS DENIED.
Richard stumbled back, staring at the screen in sheer horror. “No! That’s impossible! The quantum firewall—!”
“Was designed by my proprietary security division five years ago,” a calm, synthesized voice echoed from a small speaker on Arthur’s lapel. It was Marcus Vance—Arthur’s CTO—speaking through the secure channel.
Richard whipped his head around, staring at Arthur in utter disbelief. “Marcus? My son—you betrayed me?”
“Your son has more loyalty to the company that paid for his education, his research labs, and his future than a bitter, delusional ghost living in the past,” Arthur said coldly, taking a slow step toward Richard. “Marcus flagged your backdoor bypass attempts the second you logged into the hotel network tonight. We didn't walk into your trap, Richard. We walked you into ours.”
Richard’s face contorted with rage. He lunged forward, his thumb slamming down onto the override switch on his tablet. “If I can’t have it, nobody will! I’ll detonate the entire mainframe!”
He pressed down—and nothing happened.
The tablet went completely black, the battery pack smoking slightly as a localized EMP pulse fried the internal circuitry.
“It’s over, Richard,” Arthur said quietly.
The tactical operatives moved in with ruthless efficiency, tackling Richard to the freezing concrete and slapping heavy steel zip-ties around his wrists. He thrashed and screamed, cursing Arthur’s name into the wind as they hauled him toward the stairwell.
As the heavy door slammed shut behind them, sealing Richard away once and for all, the tension on the rooftop finally began to dissipate.
Elena let out a long, shuddering breath, her knees suddenly feeling weak. Arthur caught her by the shoulders, pulling her close into a fierce, protective embrace.

“Are you alright, my girl?” he asked, his voice cracking slightly with suppressed emotion.
“I am now, Dad,” Elena murmured against his chest. “I am now.”
