Chapter 6 - The Tables TurnBefore Julian could raise the pistol back toward Chloe’s chest, the massive double doors of the drawing room violently burst open behind him with a deafening crash.

"FEDERAL AGENTS! DROP YOUR WEAPONS!"
A blinding wall of tactical flashlights flooded the room, accompanied by the terrifying clatter of heavy combat boots and the unmistakable sound of a dozen assault rifles clicking the safety off.
Julian spun around in sheer panic, his face instantly draining of all color. "What—how did you—?"
"Drop the gun, Julian! Do it now!" roared Harrison Vance, stepping into the room right behind a heavily armored squad of federal tactical operatives.
Marcus staggered backward, his hands flying up in the air as two armed agents pinned him hard against the mahogany bookcase, kicking his legs apart and slapping heavy steel handcuffs onto his wrists with a sharp clack.
Arthur didn't waste a single second. While the tactical team swarmed Julian—slamming him face-first onto the Persian rug and disarming him in a matter of seconds—Arthur sprinted across the room to Chloe.
He dropped to his knees, pulling a Swiss Army knife from his pocket and quickly slicing through the thick duct tape wrapped around her mouth, before cutting the ropes binding her wrists to the chair.
"Dad!" Chloe sobbed hysterically, throwing her arms around his neck and burying her face in his shoulder.
"I've got you, sweetheart. You're safe. I'm right here," Arthur murmured, holding her tightly as adrenaline coursed fiercely through his veins.
Across the room, Julian was being hauled to his feet by two federal agents, his expensive Brioni suit ruined as he was shoved roughly toward the door. He glared back at Arthur with venomous hatred, struggling against the cuffs.
"You set me up!" Julian screamed, his voice echoing off the walls. "This was a trap! You knew we were coming!"
Arthur stood up slowly, keeping one protective arm around Chloe’s trembling shoulders. He walked toward Julian, his expression a masterpiece of cold, corporate dominance.
"Julian, did you really think a billionaire who built an empire by predicting market crashes wouldn't notice a hostile takeover orchestrated by a bunch of amateurs?" Arthur asked calmly. "The moment Marcus was kicked out of this house, I had a private cyber-security firm trace every digital footprint leading back to Vanguard Global Holdings. We knew about your offshore shell companies three weeks ago."
Harrison Vance stepped forward, holding up a thick manila folder for Julian to see. "And thanks to your little physical rendezvous here tonight, attempting extortion, kidnapping, and armed assault within state lines, the FBI had probable cause to execute a simultaneous raid on Vanguard’s downtown headquarters. Your entire operation is finished, Julian. You're looking at twenty years minimum."
Marcus, who was being dragged out by two other agents right behind Julian, let out a pathetic, high-pitched whine. "Arthur! Please! I was just following Julian's lead! Don't let them take me! I'm your son—well, stepson! Have mercy!"
Arthur didn't even bother to look at him. "Take them out of my sight," he commanded quietly.
As the federal agents hauled the two conspirators out into the cold night air, the heavy oak doors closed once more, restoring a profound, peaceful silence to the drawing room.
Arthur turned back to Chloe, kneeling down to look her in the eyes. "Are you alright, baby? Do you need a doctor?"
Chloe shook her head, wiping a tear from her cheek with a small smile breaking through her exhaustion. "I'm okay, Dad. I'm just... I'm so glad you're home."
Arthur pulled her into another fierce, protective hug, knowing that the storm had finally passed, leaving them standing stronger than ever before.

Or so he thought.
Unbeknownst to them, parked a half-mile down the dark country road, a secondary unmarked black van sat idling in the tree line. Inside, a shadowy figure stared at a laptop screen displaying the live security feed from inside the mansion, tapping a finger against a red detonator button.
