Chapter 5 - The Siege"They're here," the courier whispered, his eyes rolling back in sheer terror as he slumped against the medical cabinets.

Elena didn't hesitate. She hit the master security switch, dropping the heavy steel hurricane shutters over the front windows with a loud, metallic slam. She grabbed her heavy medical crate, shoved trauma kits into her pockets, and dragged the bleeding German Shepherd into the back reinforced surgical suite, locking the heavy steel-reinforced door behind them.
Through the ceiling ventilation grate, the muffled sounds of shattering glass filtered into the room. Heavy boots stomped across the linoleum of her waiting room.
"Search every corner!" a gruff, unfamiliar voice barked. "Vance wants everyone inside wiped out. Leave no witnesses, and check the back!"
Elena's breath came in ragged, shallow gasps. She knelt beside the German Shepherd, pressing thick gauze onto its bleeding thigh while whispering soothingly into its ear. The dog whined, resting its heavy head on her knee.
Suddenly, a heavy blow slammed against the back room door. Bang! Bang!
"Open up, doc! We know you're in there!" a sadistic laugh echoed from the hallway.
The lock began to splinter. The reinforced wood was holding, but for how much longer? Ten seconds? Twenty? Elena looked around the sterile room, her mind racing for a weapon, a back exit—anything. There was only a high, narrow ventilation shaft near the ceiling, far too small for a human, let alone a dog.
Just as the door gave a sickening crack and the handle broke off completely, a deafening roar erupted from the street outside.
It wasn't the sound of police sirens. It was the sound of heavy artillery fire, shattering glass, and screaming engines.

The men hammering on Elena’s door suddenly stopped. Walkie-talkies crackled with pure panic in the outer room: ,“Ambush! We’re surrounded! Moretti’s hit squad is—"
A series of rapid, silenced gunshots echoed through the clinic, followed by heavy bodies hitting the floor. Then, absolute silence.
