Chapter 5 - THE RACE AGAINST TIME"Mom..." Chloe gasped, her face turning chalk-white as she curled into a tight ball, her fingers digging desperately into my arm. "The baby... it's coming. Right now..."

"Get a medical team in here immediately!" I shouted, turning to the troopers.
Marcus Vance stepped forward, dropping his briefcase and pulling out his phone, issuing rapid-fire commands to the hospital’s newly reinstated administrative staff. Within seconds, the hallway erupted into frantic activity. The nurses and doctors who had lived in terror of Julian’s tyranny suddenly moved with a renewed, liberated efficiency, rushing into the room with a mobile delivery bed and emergency neonatal equipment.
"We need to prep her for emergency C-site delivery right now," shouted Dr. Sarah Lin, the senior head of obstetrics—a brilliant physician whom Julian had systematically demoted and silenced for refusing to falsify patient records. She took one look at Chloe, then at me, and nodded firmly. "Helen, I've got her. We are taking her to Operating Room 3. The sterile field is clean, and my team is locked in."
"Do it," I said, my voice shaking slightly as I kissed Chloe’s sweaty forehead. "I'm right here with you, my sweet girl. You're safe now. He can never touch you again."
As they wheeled Chloe down the wide corridor toward the surgical wing, I walked right beside her, holding her hand tightly.
Behind us, Julian was being hauled toward the freight elevators by the state troopers, still screaming obscenities and thrashing against his restraints, his voice echoing down the empty hall until the heavy fire doors sealed shut, cutting him off completely.
The operating room doors slid open with a soft hiss.
The bright, blinding glare of the overhead surgical lights beat down on the stainless-steel tables. Dr. Lin and her nurses transferred Chloe onto the operating table with swift, practiced precision.
"Helen, you'll need to scrub in if you want to stay in the observation gallery, or wait in the family suite," Dr. Lin instructed gently, adjusting her surgical mask.
"I'm staying right here by her head," I said firmly, pulling on a sterile cap and surgical mask. "She needs her mother."
Dr. Lin nodded respectfully. "Alright. Let's begin spinal anesthesia. Chloe, take a deep breath. You're doing wonderful."
As the anesthesiologist administered the medication, Chloe looked up at me through tear-filled eyes. The residual terror from months of abuse still lingered in her gaze, but alongside it was a flicker of profound, unimaginable relief.
"Mom... is he really gone?" she whispered, her eyelids growing heavy as the drugs took effect.
"He's gone, my darling," I whispered back, brushing a stray lock of hair from her forehead. "He will never hurt you or your child ever again. Sleep now. I'm watching over you."

Her eyes fluttered shut. The monitors beeped with a steady, rhythmic cadence.
Dr. Lin picked up the scalpel, her hand steady and unwavering. "Scalpel, please."
