Chapter 6 - The Siege of Villa MorettiBefore Ricci’s fingers could wrap around the grip of his golden revolver, a deafening explosion shattered the massive stained-glass windows at the back of the villa.

BOOM!
Glass rained down like glittering shrapnel across the dining tables. Shouts of panic erupted as armed men in black tactical gear—not mafia guards, but heavily equipped mercenaries—swarmed through the broken windows, automatic rifles raised and firing into the ceiling.
“Ambush! Down!” Alessandro roared.
In a split second, Alessandro grabbed Emma and me, shoving us beneath the heavy mahogany dining table just as a hail of bullets chewed through the plaster walls. The twelve family bosses scrambled in terror, diving behind pillars and overturned chairs as crossfire erupted across the hall.
“Marco! Secure the perimeter!” Alessandro yelled over the roar of gunfire, drawing a sleek, suppressed Glock from his waistband.
“Boss, the gates are breached! It’s Ricci’s private strike force!” Marco shouted back, firing three precise shots that dropped two mercenaries rushing through the archway.
I held Emma tight against my chest, covering her ears as she sobbed in absolute terror. The blue rabbit was clutched so tightly in her tiny hand that her knuckles were white.
“Mommy, I’m scared!” she cried.
“I’ve got you, baby. Look at me, keep your eyes on Mommy,” I whispered, my own heart pounding like a sledgehammer.
Across the room, Don Ricci was crawling toward the exit, laughing maniacally as blood dripped from a graze on his shoulder. “You think you can control Milan, Moretti? The city belongs to the Corvo!”

Alessandro vaulted over the dining table, ignoring the bullets pinging off the marble floor around him. With lightning speed, he closed the distance between himself and the fleeing old don, tackling Ricci hard against the stone pillar.
“It ends here, Ricci,” Alessandro snarled, pressing the cold barrel of his gun against the old man's temple.
