Chapter 8 - Judgment DayWith the master chip recovered, the power dynamic in Milan shifted permanently in a matter of seconds. The eleven surviving mafia bosses stared at the tiny metallic object in Alessandro’s palm with a mixture of terror and absolute submission. Without their fortunes and secret protections, they were nothing.

Don Ricci slumped against the marble pillar, defeated. His grand conspiracy, years in the making, had been completely shattered by a spilled drop of juice on a Persian rug and a three-year-old girl defending her mother.

Alessandro stood up, pocketing the chip. He walked over to Don Ricci and looked down at him with icy detachment.

“Your war is over, Ricci,” Alessandro said quietly. He signaled to Marco. “Lock him and Vivian in the deep holding cells. Let the federal prosecutor know that the evidence he’s been hunting for three years is finally ready for collection—on my terms.”

As the guards dragged the weeping conspirators away, the grand hall fell into an eerie, respectful hush. The twelve bosses slowly stood up, dusting off their expensive suits, and bowed their heads toward Alessandro Moretti. The undisputed king of Milan had just solidified his throne, not through senseless violence, but through absolute truth.

Alessandro turned back toward me and Emma. The terrifying mafia boss vanished, replaced by a man who looked at us with a strange, profound vulnerability.

He knelt down eye-level with Emma.

“You’re a very brave little girl, Emma,” Alessandro said gently, touching the ear of the blue rabbit. “And your father was a remarkable man.”

Emma blinked her big, innocent eyes. “Are you going to be sad anymore, Mr. Moretti?”

Alessandro smiled—a real, genuine smile that transformed his harsh features entirely.

“No, sweetheart,” he said softly. “I don’t think I’ll ever be sad again.”
