Chapter 10 - THE LAST LIE BETRAYED

One year later.

The sun shone brightly over the seaside cliffs of California, where Adrian and Helena had built a quiet estate away from the noise of the financial world. Eleanor was living happily in a sunlit cottage on the grounds, her health completely restored thanks to proper care and peace of mind.

Inside the quiet study of the estate, Helena was going through old archival boxes sent from the city court archives—finalized legal documents from the Vance and Falkner probate cases.

As she sorted through the yellowed paperwork, her fingers brushed against an old, leather-bound diary that had belonged to Adrian’s late father, Arthur Falkner. It had been recovered from the deep vault of Blackwood Manor during the final estate clearance.

Curious, Helena opened the diary to the last entry written on August 13th, twenty-one years ago—the night before the boat fire.

As she read the handwritten lines, her breath caught in her throat, her blood running cold:

“August 13th: The secret cannot be kept any longer. Eleanor has threatened to reveal the truth if I do not sign the custody papers. If the world finds out that Helena is not her biological daughter, but mine—born from our secret affair years ago—the Falkner name will be ruined. I must ensure Eleanor and the child disappear on the riverboat tomorrow night...”

Helena dropped the book onto the mahogany desk. Her hands trembled violently as the words echoed in her mind.

Helena was not the daughter of an engine worker. She was Arthur Falkner’s biological daughter.

Which meant... Adrian was not just her partner, her savior, or her husband.

He was her half-brother.

Helena stood frozen in the middle of the quiet room, staring at the closed door of the balcony where Adrian was sitting in the sunlight, holding their newborn infant daughter in his arms.

Outside, the ocean waves crashed violently against the rocks below, carrying the echoes of a truth far darker than any lie they had ever burned.
