Chapter 8 - A New Dawn at Moretti Manor

Three months later, the bitter winter snow of Manhattan melted away, giving way to the warm, golden sunlight of a New York spring.

Inside the sprawling gardens of the Moretti estate, cherry blossom trees were in full bloom. The air was filled with the soft, happy gurgles of two healthy babies rolling on a plush picnic blanket spread across the emerald grass.

Emma Brooks sat on a wooden bench nearby, her chestnut hair cascading over her shoulders in soft waves. She wore a simple, elegant floral sundress—a far cry from the pale nightgown she had worn the night her life changed forever.

She held a freshly carved wooden music box in her hands, carefully polishing the intricate floral details with a soft cloth. It was a replica of the one she had planned to make for little Grace.

Footsteps approached softly from behind. Strong, warm arms wrapped around her waist, and a familiar chin rested gently on her shoulder.

“The twins are sleeping through the night,” Gabriel murmured, pressing a soft kiss to her cheek. He looked relaxed, the haunted, icy shadows of his past finally replaced by a quiet, grounded peace.

“They’re growing too fast,” Emma smiled, leaning back against his chest. “Anthony has your stubborn chin, and Lucia has Isabella’s eyes.”

Gabriel looked out across the lawn toward his children, then back down at Emma with a gaze full of profound devotion. When he had brought his starving twins to a grieving mother in a hospital hallway three months ago, he had only hoped to save their lives. He never expected that her warmth, her strength, and her gentle heart would resurrect his own.

“The shop in Astoria is reopened,” Gabriel said quietly. “Managed by your sister Clare, exactly as you wanted. But your home... your real home is right here.”

Emma turned in his arms, wrapping her hands around his neck. She looked into his green eyes—eyes that had once terrified her, but now held only unconditional love.

“I know,” Emma whispered.

Gabriel leaned down and kissed her softly, sealing a bond forged in tragedy, fueled by survival, and crowned by an unexpected, unbreakable love.
