Chapter 7 - The Reckoning

The gunshot shattered the thunderous silence of the hangar.
David threw himself to the side, rolling across the wet concrete floor as the bullet ricocheted wildly off a steel pillar.
Before Richard could fire a second shot, Sarah stepped out from behind a stack of crates, her weapon raised. Two sharp shots rang out.
BANG! BANG!
Richard screamed, dropping his pistol as bullets pierced both of his shoulders. He collapsed onto the tarmac, clutching his wounds as blood pooled around his designer suit.
Vanessa shrieked, dropping her bags of diamonds and sinking to her knees, raising her hands in the air. "Don't shoot! Don't shoot! It was all his idea! I didn't know he was an imposter! I swear!"
Federal agents swarmed the hangar, tackling Richard to the ground and slapping heavy steel cuffs on his wrists.
Margaret walked slowly over to the bleeding man who had lived in her house for twenty years under a stolen name. She looked down at him not with anger, but with overwhelming disgust.
"You sat at my dinner table," Margaret whispered, her voice trembling with emotional ruin. "You called me grandmother. You made a seven-year-old girl sit beside trash because you thought she was beneath you... while you were nothing but a thief living in a dead boy's clothes."
Richard spat blood onto the floor, glaring up at her with pure venom. "You old fool. You were so blind... you never loved anyone... you just loved your precious family name..."
"And that name now belongs to someone worthy of it," Margaret said coldly. "Agent, take them away."
As Richard and Vanessa were dragged out into the pouring rain in chains, the federal agents began securing the millions of dollars in stolen assets.
David ran over to Margaret, wrapping his arm around her frail shoulders. "Are you okay, Grandma?"
Margaret looked at David, tears finally spilling from her tired eyes. "I spent my whole life protecting a dynasty built on lies, David. I was so arrogant. I judged Elena because she came from nothing, while the monsters were sitting right beside me at Christmas dinner."
May you like
"Elena never held it against you," David said gently. "She just wants our family to be safe."
Margaret took a deep breath, squaring her shoulders. "Then let's go home. We have a debt to pay to your wife."
