Chapter 18 - The Collapse of the EmpireFor three agonizing seconds, the grand ballroom was dead silent. You could hear the faint hum of the air conditioning overhead.

Then, chaos broke out.
Elite guests screamed, scattering backward in a flurry of dropped champagne flutes and designer handbags. Three plainclothes bodyguards hidden in the corners of the room instantly reached for their jackets, drawing firearms.
"Down! Everybody down!" Agent Vance roared, drawing his weapon and firing a single warning shot into the high plaster ceiling. Plaster dust rained down over the crystal chandeliers.
Julian didn't hesitate. He lunged across the podium, grabbing Arthur Sterling by the silk lapels of his tuxedo and slamming him hard against the mahogany backdrop.
"You put my little girl in a box!" Julian snarled, his fist drawing back. "You traded children like commodities!"
Sterling didn't look terrified; instead, a twisted, mocking grin spread across his face even as Julian's knuckles bruised against his jaw.
"You think arresting me changes anything, Vance?" Sterling laughed, blood trickling from his lip. "The syndicate isn't a person. It's a system. Governments, judges, international banks—they all rely on us. Even if I go down, ten more take my place tomorrow."
"Not this time," a calm voice echoed from the side entrance of the ballroom.
Heavy federal tactical units poured through every door, completely surrounding the stage. And right in the center of the armed agents, flanked by two female officers, stood Victoria.
She wasn't in handcuffs anymore; she was wearing a cooperation jumpsuit, holding a thick electronic tablet.
Sterling’s eyes widened for the first time. "Victoria... you bitch."
"I told you, Arthur, loyalty only goes as far as the wire transfer," Victoria said coldly, stepping up onto the stage and laying her tablet down beside Julian's briefcase. "I downloaded the master decryption keys to every offshore server twenty minutes before the raid. Your empire is gone."

Within moments, federal agents swarmed the stage, slapping cold steel handcuffs onto Arthur Sterling’s wrists and forcing him down onto his knees.
The man who had thought he owned the world was hauled away in total silence, surrounded by the very elites who had cheered for him only minutes before.
