Chapter 2 - THE BLOOD-STAINED CONFESSIONThe neon sign buzzed ominously above Eleanor’s head as she unfolded the blood-crusted note under its erratic pink glow. Her hands were shaking—a rare, terrifying loss of control for a woman who signed multi-billion-dollar mergers without a tremor.

The handwriting was jagged, frantic, scrawled in black ink that had smeared where the rain had leaked through the cardboard.

“If you are reading this, I am already dead. They found us. Take her far away. Do not trust Montgomery Tower. Do not trust the blood. She is the key to everything they stole.”

Eleanor stared at the words, a cold spike of adrenaline piercing her spine.

“Do not trust Montgomery Tower.”

The sentence echoed mockingly in her mind as she looked over her shoulder at the looming silhouette of her own skyscraper, piercing the stormy Manhattan sky. Montgomery Tower. Her name was etched into the granite lobby. She built that empire. How could a desperate mother writing a dying note in a filthy alleyway warn her about her own building?

"Hey! Lady! You need help over there?"

Eleanor jerked her head around. A burly delivery driver in a yellow slicker was stepping out of a box truck parked fifty feet down the block, staring suspiciously at the well-dressed executive standing knee-deep in alley filth holding a crying (now whimpering) bundle.

Eleanor’s corporate instincts flared back to life. She couldn't call the police. If the note was right—if powerful, dangerous people were hunting this child—involving the standard authorities could put the baby straight into a trap. And worse, her own name was tied to the warning.

"I'm fine!" Eleanor called back, her voice firm, carrying the commanding authority of a boardroom CEO. "Just dropped my phone!"

She didn't wait for a response. She clutched the baby tighter to her chest, tucked the blood-stained note and the silver locket deep into her coat pocket, and broke into a fast, purposeful stride toward Park Avenue, ignoring the sting of the cold rain on her face.

Ten minutes later, she bypassed her empty penthouse entirely. Instead, she ordered her private, bulletproof Maybach—which had finally broken free from the traffic jam—to drive straight to her ultra-secure private estate in upstate New York, guarded by biometric gates and ex-military security.

As the car sped through the Lincoln Tunnel, Eleanor looked down at the infant sleeping fitfully in her lap. Under the dashboard light, she noticed something terrifying that she had missed in the dark alley.

Behind the baby's left ear, stamped faintly into the skin, was a microscopic, barcode-like tattoo.

And beneath it, a serial number: MT-001.
