CHAPTER 1 — THE BOY NOBODY BELIEVED

Introduction

The golden sunset painted the skyline in shades of fire as the city's richest families gathered atop the luxurious Sky Crown Rooftop Restaurant.

Crystal chandeliers reflected across polished marble floors.

Champagne flowed without interruption.

A live jazz quartet played softly beneath strings of glowing lights.

Private helicopters drifted between skyscrapers while billionaires discussed investments worth more than entire countries.

At the center of the rooftop sat seventeen-year-old Ethan Ashford, the youngest billionaire in America.

His custom-built black wheelchair faced the skyline.

Dark designer glasses hid the empty eyes that hadn't seen light in eight years.

Doctors across the world had failed him.

Experimental surgeries.

Artificial retinas.

Stem-cell treatments.

Nothing worked.

Desperate, Ethan had publicly offered a five-million-dollar reward to anyone who could restore his sight.

Thousands had tried.

Thousands had failed.

Tonight, he had stopped believing miracles existed.

He simply wanted one peaceful dinner before another pointless meeting with another famous specialist.

He never imagined destiny was already climbing the restaurant stairs barefoot.

Body

The rooftop doors suddenly burst open.

Heads turned immediately.

A thin homeless boy stepped inside.

He couldn't have been older than fourteen.

His oversized gray hoodie was stained with dirt.

His sneakers were torn almost completely apart.

Dust covered his arms.

His face looked exhausted...

but strangely fearless.

The wealthy guests immediately frowned.

"How did he get past security?"

"Someone remove him."

"He's going to steal something."

Phones slowly lifted.

Not because anyone felt sympathy—

but because rich people loved recording disasters.

The boy ignored every insult.

His calm eyes searched the crowd until they landed directly on Ethan.

He walked toward the billionaire's private table.

One step.

Two steps.

Three.

Security noticed.

Six heavily armed bodyguards instantly surrounded him.

"Stop right there!"

The homeless boy didn't.

One guard grabbed his shoulder.

Another reached for his arm.

The boy quietly looked at them.

"I only need one minute."

"No."

"You'll ruin the evening."

"Take him out."

The guards shoved him backward.

His body slammed into a marble column.

A crystal wine glass slipped from a waiter's tray.

CRASH!

The sound exploded across the rooftop.

Every conversation stopped.

Jazz music faded into silence.

The camera phones all pointed toward the same place.

The homeless boy slowly stood again.

Blood trickled from a small cut beside his eyebrow.

He didn't wipe it away.

Instead...

he raised one finger.

Not toward security.

Not toward the guests.

Toward Ethan.

"I can make him see again."

Silence.

Complete silence.

Even the wind seemed to disappear.

The bodyguards stared at him.

Several guests laughed.

Another whispered,

"Poor kid's completely insane."

But Ethan...

didn't laugh.

Behind the dark glasses...

his fingers slowly tightened around the wheelchair armrests.

For years...

everyone who approached him claimed they had a cure.

Every one of them had lied.

Still...

there was something different about this boy.

He hadn't asked for money.

He hadn't begged.

He hadn't introduced himself.

He simply made a statement.

Security prepared to drag him away.

Ethan finally spoke.

"Wait."

The single word stopped six grown men instantly.

The billionaire slowly turned his face toward the boy.

"Come closer."

Gasps spread across the rooftop.

The homeless boy stepped forward until only a few feet separated them.

Ethan's voice remained cold.

"Do you know who I am?"

"Yes."

"You know about the reward?"

"Yes."

"You think you're smarter than surgeons from twenty-three countries?"

The boy answered without hesitation.

"They were treating blindness."

He paused.

"They should have been treating memory."

Confused murmurs rippled across the crowd.

Ethan's expression changed.

For the first time...

his heartbeat became uneven.

"Explain."

Instead...

the homeless boy slowly reached into his torn hoodie.

Every bodyguard immediately pulled their weapons.

"Hands where I can see them!"

The boy ignored them.

He removed...

an old faded photograph.

Its edges were burned.

Rain had nearly erased half the image.

He carefully placed it into Ethan's hand.

"You've touched this before."

Ethan frowned.

His fingertips moved slowly across the worn paper.

Then...

his breathing stopped.

His hands began trembling uncontrollably.

"No..."

he whispered.

"This picture..."

"Where..."

"...did you get this?"

The homeless boy looked directly at him.

"My mother kept it hidden."

Another long silence.

Then the boy spoke the sentence that froze every soul on the rooftop.

"She said your father stole my eyes to save yours."

Ending

Nobody breathed.

One of the guests accidentally dropped a champagne glass.

It shattered unnoticed.

Security slowly lowered their weapons.

Even the city noise seemed impossibly far away.

Ethan's pale face lost all color.

His fingers crushed the old photograph.

His voice cracked into a whisper.

"What... did you just say?"

The homeless boy took one final step forward.

"I know why you're blind."

"And I know who made sure you would never see again."

The rooftop fell into absolute silence.

Because somewhere in the shadows...

someone else had been listening to every single word.

And the moment the truth surfaced...

May you like

that person quietly reached for a gun.
