Chapter 7 - The Blueprint for VengeanceDawn broke over Lake Michigan, casting a brilliant, cold golden light across the Chicago skyline.

Inside the private VIP recovery suite on the top floor of Northwestern Memorial, Lily was sleeping soundly, color finally returning to her cheeks. Sophia sat in a plush leather armchair beside her bed, wrapped in a blanket, while Julian and Marcus stood near the panoramic window, reviewing the contents of the encrypted flash drive on a sleek, matte-black tablet.

“It’s all here,” Julian said, his fingers scrolling through lines of coded financial transactions, offshore shell company registries, and recorded phone transcripts. “Every single dollar they embezzled from the tech merger, routed through dummy accounts controlled by Richard Vance and Arthur Sterling—your two favorite board members.”

Marcus stared out the window, his reflection sharp in the glass. “They tried to push me out of the acquisition yesterday afternoon. They thought with the board split 50-50, they could outvote me and liquidate the firm’s real estate holdings.”

“They don't know I’m alive,” Julian said quietly. “They thought the car bomb in 2019 took care of me. That’s why they felt safe moving the remaining capital back into domestic accounts last week.”

Marcus turned around, a cold, calculating smile touching the corners of his mouth. A smile that had terrified corporate competitors across Wall Street for a decade.

“Let them move it,” Marcus said softly. “Let them think they’ve won. Because at nine o’clock this morning, we have our quarterly shareholder meeting. And I’m going to present a new acquisition proposal.”

Julian looked up, a knowing gleam in his eye. “What kind of proposal?”

“A hostile takeover of their personal assets,” Marcus replied smoothly. “Backed by a billion-dollar trust fund registered under the legal guardianship of Lily Grace Reyes—managed by her father, Julian Vance, and her primary trustee, Marcus Hail.”

Julian stared at him, a slow, relieved smile breaking across his scarred face. “They won’t even know what hit them.”

“Oh, they’ll know,” Marcus said, walking over to check on Lily before turning back to the two adults who had anchored his humanity back to reality. “Because by noon today, the name Marcus Hail won’t just be on the side of a building. It’ll be the name that sends them straight to federal prison.”
