Chapter 8 - The Boardroom TrapAt 8:55 AM, the executive boardroom on the forty-fifth floor of Hail Enterprises was packed with tension.

Richard Vance and Arthur Sterling sat side-by-side at the head of the mahogany table, whispering among themselves with smug, self-satisfied grins. They had the votes. They had the proxies. By 9:15 AM, Marcus Hail would be stripped of his CEO title, and the multi-billion-dollar empire would be theirs to carve up and sell off.
The heavy oak doors swung open.
Marcus walked in. He wasn’t wearing his usual rumpled hospital suit; he was dressed in a bespoke charcoal-grey Valentino suit, his hair immaculate, his posture absolute perfection.
Behind him walked a man in a sharp, tailored black suit, wearing wire-rimmed glasses and carrying a heavy leather briefcase.
Richard Vance sneered, leaning back in his leather chair. “Well, look who finally decided to show up. Marcus, save us the speech. We’ve called for an immediate vote on executive restructuring. Hand over the keys.”
Marcus didn't blink. He walked slowly to the head of the table, pulled out his chair, and sat down. He didn't rush. He didn't look flustered.
“You’re right, Richard,” Marcus said smoothly, his voice carrying effortlessly across the silent room. “We do need to talk about restructuring. Specifically, about the unauthorized transfer of nine hundred million dollars in hidden subsidiary funds.”
Arthur Sterling’s smile faltered. “What are you talking about? There are no hidden funds.”
“Are you sure about that?” Marcus asked. He clicked a remote on the table.
Behind him, the massive eighty-inch smart-glass wall instantly lit up. Instead of the quarterly financial report, the screen displayed a live, encrypted ledger mapping out every single offshore account, shell company, and illegal wire transfer linked directly to Richard and Arthur’s personal Swiss bank accounts.
Panic flashed across Richard’s face. “This is a forgery! Where did you get this? It’s illegal—!”
“It’s not a forgery, Richard,” a calm, steady voice echoed from the doorway.
All heads snapped toward the entrance.

Julian Vance stepped into the boardroom, peeling off his leather gloves and stepping into the bright morning light.
The color drained entirely from Richard and Arthur’s faces. They looked like men who had just seen a ghost crawl out of an open grave.
