Chapter 5 - THE RAID AT MIDNIGHTThe heavy oak door of Lacey's room splintered with a loud crack as Nolan threw his entire weight against it.

"Sarah! You're making a catastrophic mistake!" Nolan screamed, his voice cracking with desperation as he clawed at the deadbolt mechanism from the cracked wood frame.

I stood in the center of the bedroom holding Lacey, my eyes fixed on the door. I had my phone in my hand, broadcasting a live, encrypted stream directly to Marcus’s secure investigative server, which was already mirrored to three independent news outlets and federal oversight boards.

"The only mistake I made was marrying you, Nolan," I called out clearly, ensuring every word was picked up by the stream.

With a final, violent kick, the door gave way, crashing inward.

Nolan stumbled into the room, his clothes disheveled, his face twisted in ugly rage. He lunged forward, his hands outstretched to grab my phone.

Suddenly, the front door downstairs flew open with a deafening crash.

Heavy, tactical boots thundered up the staircase. Shouts echoed through the hallway—not the local police sirens I had half-expected, but the sharp, authoritative commands of federal agents.

"Federal Marshals! Nobody move! Stay where you are!"

Nolan froze mid-stride, his hands hovering in the air as three armed agents poured into Lacey’s bedroom, their flashlights cutting through the dim light. Behind them strode Marcus, holding a professional camera rig broadcasting live, accompanied by an independent legal magistrate holding a signed federal search warrant.

"Nolan Halstead?" the lead marshal barked, stepping forward with handcuffs ready. "You are under arrest for conspiracy to commit wire fraud, corporate extortion, and interstate asset tampering in collusion with Apex Logistics."

"This is insane! You can't do this! I demand to speak with Victoria Vance's legal team!" Nolan shrieked, thrashing as the heavy steel cuffs snapped around his wrists, biting hard into his skin.

"Victoria Vance is already in custody," Marcus announced calmly, stepping into the room and panning his camera lens directly onto Nolan’s sweat-soaked, terrified face. "Her corporate offices were raided ten minutes ago based on the financial paper trail we pulled from your hidden server in the walls, Nolan. The empire you and your boss built on lies just went bankrupt."

Nolan slumped forward, all the fight draining out of him as the federal agents hauled him toward the hallway.

I let out a long, shuddering breath I felt like I’d been holding for fifty-eight days. I looked down at Lacey, who was watching the chaos with wide, curious eyes. I pulled her close, kissing the top of her head.

"It's over, sweetie," I whispered, tears finally streaming down my cheeks. "The game is finished."
