Chapter 6 - Cavalry from the SkyThe violent chopping sound of high-powered rotor blades battered the air, shaking the rusted roof of the shed so hard that flakes of metal rained down like dust. A blinding flash of white tactical spotlights descended from the heavens, pinning James and his men against the dirt like insects under a microscope.

James cursed, shielding his eyes with his forearm. "What the hell is that?!"

A massive twin-engine Sikorsky helicopter dropped out of the foggy night sky, its landing gear hovering inches above the overgrown grass behind the SUVs. The bold, unmistakable logo of the New York State Police Tactical Division was emblazoned across its hull.

Before James's men could draw their weapons, the cabin doors slid open with a violent snap. Fully armored state troopers, rifles raised and laser sights glowing red, poured out of the aircraft, securing the perimeter in seconds.

"Federal and State authorities! Drop your weapons! Hands on your heads, now!" a booming voice echoed through a megaphone.

Marcus stepped down from the helicopter hatch right behind the lead captain, holding a heavy manila folder and a tablet that blinked with green verification lights. He looked down at the chaos with an expression of supreme satisfaction.

"Sorry to interrupt the family reunion, James," Marcus called out over the deafening roar of the idling rotors. "Or should I call you Arthur Pendelton, the alias you've been using to manage your offshore shell companies in the Caymans for the last decade?"

James’s face lost every ounce of its arrogant color. He spun around, glaring at Marcus. "You’re making a mistake. I am James Blackwood! A senior partner of Stellar Retreats!"

"You were James Blackwood," Marcus corrected smoothly, stepping down onto the dirt. He tapped his tablet. "Until Dr. Jennings at Biogen Labs ran the urgent DNA panel requested by Mr. Robert Blackwood twenty minutes ago. Not only does Emma Blackwood match Robert's genetic profile with a 99.999% certainty... but our financial forensics team cross-referenced your biometric thumbprint from a Zurich bank account you accessed this morning."

Marcus stepped closer, flanked by two armed troopers. "You aren't James Blackwood at all, are you, Arthur? You’re James's estranged, disinherited half-brother—Arthur Pendelton—who embezzled half a million from the family estate back in college, faked a boating accident using a dead body from the morgue, and assumed James’s identity after the real James died in a climbing accident in the Alps ten years ago!"

The silence that followed was absolute, broken only by the whistling wind through the shattered windows of the Wheeler house.
