Chapter 14 - The Confession of Marcus VanceMarcus Vance stood with his hands folded neatly in front of his tailored suit, looking not the least bit guilty or surprised at being caught in the restricted archives.

“Marcus?” Adrian stared at him in utter disbelief. “You? You’ve been with this company since my grandfather’s era. You handled every legal document, every trust fund, every merger...”

“And I also helped cover up the greatest scandal this family ever faced,” Marcus replied smoothly, his voice chillingly calm.

He stepped closer into the flickering fluorescent light, his eyes shifting from Adrian to me.

“Your mother didn't just run away because she hated high society, Elena,” Marcus said, looking directly at me. “She ran away because she discovered that her older sister—the true primary heir to the entire Vale empire—wasn't dead at all. Your grandfather had her institutionalized under a false name and smuggled out of the country because she threatened to expose the firm’s illegal arms dealings back in the eighties.”

The room seemed to spin. All the pieces of the puzzle—the haunting sadness in my mother’s eyes, the secret melody, the sudden, unyielding walls she built around our little life—snapped into a horrifying, crystal-clear focus.

“My mother... she spent her whole life hiding because she was protecting someone?” I choked out, the tears burning behind my eyelids.

“She spent her whole life hiding because she knew the Vales would come for her the moment she uttered a single word,” Marcus said coldly. He reached into his coat pocket, pulling out a heavy, vintage golden key. “And Victoria... Victoria was trying to access the dormant trust funds to bail out her husband’s failing accounts. She thought she could outsmart me. But she forgot that I keep all the real keys.”

Adrian’s face darkened with a fury I had never seen before. He took a sharp step forward, his voice dropping into a lethal, controlled growl.

“You’ve been manipulating both sides for decades, Marcus. Bleeding the company dry while pretending to be the loyal servant.”

“I’ve been keeping this empire alive while you children played games!” Marcus snapped back, his mask of calm finally slipping, revealing a desperate, unhinged ambition. “And now, with a simple signature on the document in that binder, I can transfer the controlling shares to a shell company I control. You’re finished, Adrian. Both of you.”

Before Marcus could pull a remote device from his pocket, Adrian moved with blinding speed—tackling the elderly lawyer to the concrete floor just as Marcus slammed his hand down on a hidden panic button.
