Chapter 6 - The Fall of the House of HaleBack in Boston, the morning after the disastrous ultrasound appointment, the corporate world of New England was in complete, unadulterated freefall.

The scandal had broken into the public eye with the explosive force of a tactical missile. Investigative gossip columns and financial tabloids had somehow gotten hold of the medical clinic’s internal incident log, alongside leaked audio recordings of the confrontation between Preston, Brielle, and Dr. Harrison.
By 8:00 a.m., Hale Industries stock had plummeted by fourteen percent on the NASDAQ exchange.
Inside the mahogany-paneled boardroom of Vale Tower, the atmosphere was thick with impending doom. Arthur Hale sat at the head of the long conference table, looking ten years older than he had twenty-four hours ago. His hair was disheveled, his expensive tie loosened, and his hands trembled as he stared at the emergency board of directors assembled before him.
Preston sat at the far end of the table, staring blankly at the polished wood surface. He hadn't slept. He hadn't shaved. He looked like a ghost haunting his own life.
“The institutional investors are threatening to pull fifty million in liquidity by noon unless we issue a formal restructuring of executive leadership,” the chief financial officer announced coldly, adjusting his glasses. “And to make matters worse, Julian Vance—our former lead associate—has already retained high-profile criminal defense counsel after being implicated in unauthorized asset transfers linked to Ms. Foster.”
Arthur slammed his palm against the table. “Preston! This is entirely your doing! Your scandalous personal life, your absolute lack of judgment, and your disgraceful treatment of your former wife have brought this company to the brink of financial ruin!”
Preston slowly raised his head. His eyes were red-rimmed, hollow, and dead.
“You cared more about the family name, the trust fund, and a male heir than you ever cared about me as a son,” Preston said, his voice terrifyingly quiet. “You pushed me into marrying into high society. You applauded when I sidelined Lena. We got exactly what we deserved.”
“Don't you dare lecture me about family values!” Arthur roared, pointing a shaking finger at him. “You traded a loyal, dignified woman and two wonderful granddaughters for a manipulative gold-digger who made a fool out of every single one of us! And now? Now, Lena has completely vanished. Her lawyers filed a total asset severance petition this morning. She’s locked you out of every shared trust, every offshore account, and every property deed we owned.”
Preston blinked, a cold wave of horror washing over him. “What... what do you mean, locked me out?”
The corporate attorney sitting beside Arthur slid a thick legal binder across the table.
“Your ex-wife isn't just gone, Preston,” the attorney said grimly. “Before she signed the divorce agreement, she executed a pre-arranged contingency clause embedded in your prenuptial agreement—one your own father insisted on drafting eleven years ago to protect family assets from outside liabilities. Because you committed proven adultery and abandoned the marital domicile to establish a secondary household, Lena has legally triggered full forfeiture of your secondary holdings.”
The attorney paused for dramatic effect.
“You are officially bankrupt, Preston. Your personal accounts have been frozen, your luxury vehicles have been repossessed by the bank, and your name has been permanently stripped from the Hale Industries executive board.”
Preston sat frozen in his chair. The boardroom around him began to spin.

He had wanted a new beginning. He had wanted a son, a fresh start, a life free of what he foolishly considered dead weight. Instead, in less than a week, he had lost his marriage, his family, his fortune, his career, and his dignity.
And out there, thousands of miles across the ocean, Lena and his daughters were living under the warm Portuguese sun, completely untouched by the wreckage he had made of his own life.
