Chapter 20 - The First Dance of ForeverThe grand ballroom of the Vale Hotel was transformed into a winter wonderland for the private charity gala celebrating the launch of the Rose Bennett Foundation—an organization dedicated to providing free dance and arts education to underprivileged children across Boston.

The room was filled with laughter, bright colors, and the sound of children running and playing near the refreshment tables. There were no snobs, no cruel bets, and no arrogant socialites looking down their noses at anyone.

Standing near the center of the newly laid, authentic reclaimed oak floor was Lucia.

She wore her favorite pale-blue dress, her small silver shoes catching the brilliant light of the crystal chandeliers overhead.

Adrian walked up beside me, holding two glasses of sparkling cider. He handed me one and smiled.

“Ready?” he asked softly, nodding toward the dance floor.

I looked at him, feeling an overwhelming sense of completeness wash over me. The server’s uniform from months ago felt like a distant, another lifetime’s memory. I wasn't hiding anymore. I wasn't running. I belonged right here, exactly where I was supposed to be.

“Always,” I smiled.

The orchestra struck up the first delicate notes of the melody—our song, passed down from my mother, danced by my daughter, and now echoing through the heart of a united family.

As Adrian took my hand and led me toward the center of the floor, Lucia ran up and grabbed our other hands, spinning between us with a joyful, carefree laugh.

The music swelled, filling the grand room with warmth, light, and unending possibility. And as we spun together beneath the glittering chandeliers, I knew with absolute certainty that this wasn't just an ending.

It was our beginning.
