Chapter 7 - The Shadow Behind the Curtain

Two weeks after the Miami parking lot incident, the internet had largely digested the viral spectacle, categorizing it as a bizarre, hyper-scripted stunt orchestrated by tech marketing gurus. Bradley’s social media accounts had vanished overnight—wiped clean by federal compliance sweeps and copyright strikes—and the 'Crypto-King' was currently facing federal wire fraud and securities manipulation charges that carried a twenty-year prison sentence.

For the rest of the world, life resumed its normal rhythm.

For me, the peace was shattered permanently.

Sitting in the dimly lit corner of a private obsidian-glass conference room on the 82nd floor of TechNova's San Francisco headquarters, I stared at a high-resolution satellite feed displayed across the wall-length monitor.

Marcus walked in, tossing a heavy leather dossier onto the polished mahogany table. His face was unusually grim.

"You were right to be paranoid about that Miami incident, Julian," Marcus said without preamble, leaning against the edge of the table. "We thought it was just a random influencer running his mouth for clout. Our cybersecurity forensic team dug into Bradley’s offshore shell companies yesterday."

I didn't take my eyes off the monitor. "And?"

"And... Bradley wasn't just a lucky scammer," Marcus replied, sliding a printed financial ledger across the table. "He was being funded. By a syndicate based out of Zurich. A rival venture conglomerate called Apex Zenith Holdings."

My gaze finally shifted from the screen up to my brother. Apex Zenith. The ruthless, shadowy corporate raider firm that had tried three hostile takeover attempts on TechNova over the past two years—all of which I had personally crushed by buying up their voting shares under anonymous trusts.

"They didn't just stumble into you in that parking lot," Marcus continued, his voice dropping to a tense whisper. "They tracked your encrypted satellite phone ping using a military-grade localized IMSI catcher. They engineered that confrontation to force you into unmasking yourself on a live stream, hoping to trigger an immediate regulatory panic and tank our stock value by twenty percent."

I slowly stood up, buttoning the cuffs of another plain white shirt—identical to the one I wore in Miami.

"They wanted to test my armor," I said softly, a cold, sharp smile touching the corner of my lips. "They wanted to see if the ghost was still real."

"Well, they found out," Marcus warned. "And now Apex Zenith’s primary managing director—a ruthless sociopath named Viktor Vance, no relation to us—is flying into San Francisco tonight. He has scheduled an emergency hostile acquisition meeting for tomorrow morning at nine sharp. He thinks you're cornered."

I walked over to the floor-to-ceiling window, looking out over the glittering expanse of the San Francisco bay as the fog rolled in over the Golden Gate Bridge.

"Let him come," I said quietly. "Let him bring every lawyer, every banker, and every billion-dollar war chest he has."

I turned back to Marcus, my eyes burning with absolute, uncompromising resolve.

"Tomorrow, we don't just defend TechNova. We take everything they own."
