Sarah scrambled right behind me, her boots clattering against the concrete. “Adrian, wait! It’s a diversion! If my father is behind this, he doesn't want the ledger—he wants the girl!”
“Why?” I shouted over my shoulder as we burst out into the main hallway of the mansion.
“Because Lily’s mother didn't just stumble into the maid position by accident eight months ago,” Sarah yelled as we ran through the grand foyer. “Anna is Arthur Vance’s legal granddaughter. She was hiding her daughter in your house because she knew her own grandfather was hunting them for the inheritance trust!”
Every puzzle piece slammed into place with terrifying violence. Anna wasn't just an invisible housemaid; she was the missing heir to the multi-million-dollar Moretti-Vance shipping empire, and Arthur Vance needed her signature—or Lily’s—to liquidate the final offshore assets before the federal indictments went public.
