Chapter 15 - The Ultimatum on the Pier“They took them down to the old boathouse slip,” Daniel’s voice crackled through my comm-link, broken up by violent static and heavy background interference. “Boss, a private helicopter just touched down on the North Pier. An older man with federal credentials escorted Anna and Lily toward the watercraft.”

“Lock down the airspace!” I roared into the radio. “Authorize anti-drone countermeasures! Do not let that bird leave the ground!”

“Negative, boss. The entire local airspace is being jammed by a military-grade EMP relay. We’re blind.”

I didn't wait for further reports. I grabbed a heavy tactical vest from the armory rack in the hallway, slapped two extra magazines into my pouch, and pulled a suppressed submachine gun from the wall mount.

“Sarah, stay here,” I ordered, turning toward the French doors leading out to the lake terrace.

“Like hell I will,” Sarah snapped, chambering a round into her Glock with a sharp metallic snap. “That monster is my father. I’m ending this family legacy today.”

We burst out onto the terrace, the cold October wind howling off Lake Michigan, whipping the dark waves into white-capped fury against the concrete sea walls. Down on the North Pier, a sleek, twin-engine Sikorsky helicopter sat idling on the tarmac, its rotors spinning a blinding blur against the midnight sky.

Standing near the open cabin door was an elderly man in an immaculate grey trench coat, holding a trembling Anna by the arm while a masked operative held little Lily against his chest.
