Chapter 7 - THE SIEGE OF KENT AVENUEGlass showered across the linoleum floor as a heavy iron brick wrapped in a red-stained cloth flew through the front window. Mara screamed, diving behind the high reception counter just as the heavy front doors were kicked open with a sickening crunch of splintered wood.

Two men in dark tactical gear stepped into the clinic, their faces obscured by ski masks, automatic rifles raised and sweeping the room.
"Clear!" shouted the first man, his voice muffled.
Mara held her breath, pressing herself flat against the floor behind the desk. Her hand groped blindly across the shelf, her fingers brushing against a heavy metal staple remover. It was pathetic—a toy against assault rifles—but it was all she had.
Footsteps. Heavy boots crunching on broken glass, moving closer to the desk.
"Check behind the counter!"
Mara gripped the staple remover, her knuckles white, her mind flashing to Adrian, to Ash, to the impossible life she had chosen to step into. She wasn't going down without a fight.
As the dark fabric of a tactical pant leg stepped around the corner of the desk, Mara sprang upward, driving the heavy metal corner of the staple remover straight into the man's exposed wrist with a guttural cry.
The man roared in pain, dropping his weapon as it clattered loudly against the floor. But before she could react, his partner rounded the corner, grabbing her by the collar of her scrubs and jerking her violently to her feet.
"Got the target," the second man snarled into a radio transmitter strapped to his shoulder. "Moving out to the alley now."
May you like
Mara struggled wildly, kicking and clawing at his arms, but her strength was nothing against his tactical vest. They dragged her toward the back exit, the cold night air rushing in to meet them.
And then, the alley exploded into blinding white light.
