The first snow of the year fell quietly over Greenwich, dusting the sprawling lawns of Hawthorne House in a layer of pristine white.
I stood by the grand front window, wrapped in a heavy cashmere sweater, watching the snowflakes drift past the antique chandelier inside the foyer. The house was quiet, warm, and entirely my own. There were no secrets hidden behind the walls, no forged deeds in the study, and no regrets lingering in the dark corners.
My phone buzzed on the entryway table. It was a text message from Marcus Vance: “The blueprint for the winter garden restoration is finalized. Dinner at seven to review the final draft?”
