Chapter 13 - The New Empire

Back in Manhattan, the transition of power at Beaumont Hospitality was moving faster than anticipated.
Seated at the mahogany conference table on the forty-fifth floor, I reviewed the final quarterly projections with our senior board members. The acquisition of the Hartford commercial portfolio had closed three days earlier, injecting millions in liquid assets back into our primary hospitality trusts.
"The Kensington deal is finalized, Miss Beaumont," Eleanor Pike announced, sliding a pristine leather-bound folder across the desk. "All titles have been cleared through the state registry. Not a single trace of Beacon Trust or Arthur Sterling remains on the corporate books."
I signed my name to the final transfer document. Lena Beaumont.
"And Arthur’s trial?" I asked without looking up.
"Plea bargain accepted this morning," Eleanor replied, adjusting her glasses. "He agreed to cooperate fully with federal prosecutors regarding international shell companies in exchange for a reduced sentence. He’ll spend the remainder of his life in a minimum-security medical facility in Vermont."
"A quiet end for a man who loved chaos," I murmured, closing the folder.
Chloe, my assistant, stepped into the conference room with a tablet in her hand. "Excuse me, Miss Beaumont. You have an urgent call holding from the real estate desk in Palm Beach. It’s about the historic hotel property your father acquired back in ninety-eight."

I looked around the table at my board members—executives who respected the company, understood its history, and valued substance over flash. The invisible machinery of my father’s empire was no longer running in the shadows; I was holding the levers out in the open.
"Put them through to my office, Chloe," I said, standing up and smoothing the lapels of my tailored charcoal blazer. "Let's see what else needs rebuilding."
