Chapter 18 - Rebuilding the Legacy

Summer in Manhattan brought a relentless wave of heat that shimmered off the asphalt, but inside the executive offices of Beaumont Hospitality, the atmosphere was cool, focused, and forward-looking.
I sat at my father’s mahogany desk, reviewing the architectural renderings for our newest hotel project—a luxury sustainable resort set along the coast of Maine. Every detail had been vetted, every financial projection audited, and every partnership established on a foundation of absolute transparency.
Chloe walked in carrying a silver tray with a cup of green tea and a single white envelope.
"The legal department just sent over the final sign-off on the Hartford commercial blocks," Chloe reported, setting the tray down. "Kensington & Co. transferred the remaining wire funds this morning. The portfolio is officially closed out at a thirty percent net profit."
"Good," I said, signing my name to a digital authorization form. "Transfer half of those proceeds directly into the Beaumont Foundation fund for historic preservation."
"Done," Chloe smiled. She hesitated for a second at the door. "Oh, and Mr. Vance called. He’s downstairs in the lobby. He wanted to know if you had time to inspect the final stone carvings for the Hawthorne House courtyard before tonight's dinner."
I looked up from my desk, a genuine smile touching my lips. "Tell him I’ll be down in five minutes."

As Chloe closed the door, I glanced out the tall glass windows at the sprawling New York skyline. The city stretched out endlessly beneath the summer sun, brilliant, resilient, and vast. I had spent years hiding my strength behind someone else's fragile ego, believing that love meant sharing a stage with a fraud.
Now, there were no stages. There were only foundations. And mine was built to last forever.
