Chapter 8 - THE SHADOW WAR BEGINSThree months later.

The autumn sun shone brightly over a bustling city park. The trees were painted in shades of gold and crimson, and children laughed as they chased pigeons along the paved walkways.

On a quiet bench near the park entrance sat Jax. He was wearing clean, simple clothes, a far cry from his old obnoxious street style. Next to him sat his two friends, quietly reading and discussing college applications.

Jax looked up as a familiar tall figure walked down the path. Samuel Vance was dressed in a sharp dark suit, walking with a smooth, barely noticeable stride. He didn't look like a frail old man anymore; he looked like an impenetrable pillar of strength.

Samuel stopped in front of the bench, tossing a small bag of breadcrumbs to Jax.

"How are the studies coming along, Jax?" Samuel asked with a faint hint of a smile.

"Passed my entrance exams for the Military Academy, Commander," Jax replied proudly, standing up and standing at attention. "Starting next month."

"Good," Samuel said, looking around the peaceful park. "This world looks quiet, Jax. But under the surface, a storm is gathering."

Samuel reached into his suit jacket and pulled out a sleek, modern smartphone. He played a short video clip that had been sent to his encrypted inbox just ten minutes prior.

The video showed a crowded subway station in downtown Tokyo. Walking through the crowd was a man in a long trench coat, his face obscured by a hat, but on his exposed neck was a distinct, fresh scar. As the man turned toward the camera for a split second, his cold blue eyes flashed before the screen cut to static.

A single line of text appeared at the bottom of the screen: “See you soon, Brother.”

Jax stared at the screen, his chest tightening. "Is that...?"

"Victor," Samuel confirmed softly. He closed the phone and put it away.

Samuel turned to leave, his cybernetic leg stepping flawlessly onto the pavement. He paused, looking back over his shoulder at the young man he had saved—and transformed.

"The war never truly ends, Jax," Samuel said, his voice ringing with absolute authority. "It just moves to a new battlefield. Stay ready."

As Samuel Vance vanished into the bustling crowd, Jax pulled the faded "Veteran" cap down over his forehead, adjusted his posture, and looked out into the future with clear, unwavering eyes.
