Chapter 4 - The Wire Transfer Trap

"You think you’re so smart, don't you?" Brent spat, his fear turning into toxic rage as he threw the court papers onto the wet driveway. "You think you can just kick me out and take everything? I have rights! I’m going to sue you for half of everything you own! I’m going to take half of your company, half of your accounts, and full custody of Ivy!"

Diane nodded aggressively beside him. "That baby belongs in a proper family! Not with an unhinged, heartless businesswoman who sells her child's birthplace!"

I stared at them both, feeling an overwhelming sense of pity—not for myself, but for how pathetic they truly were.

"You can try to sue me for custody, Brent," I said quietly. "But first, you might want to call your banker."

Brent’s face twitched. "What are you talking about?"

"The two million dollars," I said, lowering my voice so only he and Diane could hear. "The wire transfer you initiated from my private liquidity account on Monday night while I was shivering outside."

Brent froze. The color drained completely from his cheeks.

"You... you knew?" he stuttered.

"I didn't just know, Brent. I left the key in the desk on purpose," I said, my voice dripping with cold satisfaction. "That account wasn't my personal money. It was an escrow account created for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. They’ve been auditing your mother’s 'Children’s Hope' charity foundation for the past six months on suspicion of embezzlement and tax fraud."

Diane let out a choked gasp, clutching her throat. "What?!"

"The moment you authorized that wire transfer using my stolen master login, you committed a federal felony," I continued, stepping closer until I was inches from Brent's trembling frame. "You didn't steal from me, Brent. You intercepted federal evidence. You transferred stolen non-profit money across state lines."

Right on cue, two dark sedans pulled up behind the moving van. Four men in tailored suits stepped out, showing badge credentials as they walked straight toward Brent and Diane.

"Brent Miller? Diane Miller?" Special Agent Harris said, his voice flat and authoritative. "You are both under arrest for federal wire fraud, grand larceny, and conspiracy to commit money laundering."

"No! No, this is a mistake!" Diane screamed as an agent pulled her arms behind her back, slapping silver handcuffs over her wrists. "My son is a respectable businessman! This is a setup! Tessa, tell them! Tell them!"

Brent didn't move. He stood paralyzed as the cuffs clicked around his wrists. He stared at me, his eyes wide with a combination of horror, betrayal, and absolute ruin.

"Why?" he whispered, his voice trembling. "Why would you do this to me? I loved you!"

"You didn't love me, Brent," I said, my voice steady and unforgiving. "You loved my house. You loved my money. You loved the prestige. But you forgot one simple rule."

I reached into my coat, pulled out a small silver key—the original key to the mansion—and tossed it onto the wet asphalt at his feet.

"Never lock out the person who owns the foundation you stand on."
