CHAPTER 8 – The Woman Who Returned From the Dead

No one breathed.

No one even blinked.

The elegant woman stood beneath the shattered chandelier, her calm eyes fixed on Nathan.

"I know what you're all thinking," she said quietly.

"You believe I'm a ghost."

Nathan's voice cracked.

"Victoria... I buried you."

The woman smiled sadly.

"No."

"You buried an empty coffin."

The room exploded with disbelief.

Sophia looked from Nathan to Emma, unable to understand.

"What is happening?"

Victoria slowly removed a leather folder from her handbag.

Inside were passports...

Medical records...

Government documents...

Every one of them carried the same name.

Victoria Harrington.

"They declared me dead because your father paid them to."

Nathan staggered backward.

"My father?"

Victoria nodded.

"He believed someone inside the Harrington family wanted me dead."

"So he created a new identity and hid me overseas while I was pregnant."

Sophia looked at Lily.

"You mean..."

Victoria smiled through tears.

"Yes."

"Lily is my daughter."

Nathan felt his knees buckle.

"And mine?"

Victoria nodded.

"You are her father."

Nathan collapsed to the floor, sobbing.

For eight years...

He had believed his wife was dead.

His daughter had been stolen.

His life had been erased.

And every single tragedy had been orchestrated by the one person he trusted most...

His own brother.

Ethan closed his eyes.

"I never wanted this."

Victoria looked at him with disappointment.

"No."

"You wanted everything."

"The company."

"The fortune."

"My husband."

"My child."

"And Father's approval."

Ethan finally broke.

"I loved you!"

The words echoed through the mansion.

Nathan looked at his younger brother in horror.

"You..."

"You destroyed our family because you were obsessed with my wife?"

Ethan laughed bitterly.

"I spent my entire life living in your shadow."

"Father always chose you."

"Employees respected you."

"She loved you."

"I was invisible."

"So I made sure..."

"No one could have what I couldn't."

Emma wiped away her tears.

"You murdered innocent people for jealousy."

Ethan lowered his head.

"I told myself it was about the company."

"But it never was."

"It was always about revenge."

At that moment...

Police officers stormed into the mansion.

"Ethan Harrington!"

"Drop your weapon!"

Ethan slowly placed the gun on the floor.

Without resisting.

Without speaking.

As officers handcuffed him, he looked one last time at Lily.

"I'm sorry."

Lily didn't answer.

She simply turned and hugged Nathan.

"Daddy..."

Nathan broke into uncontrollable tears as he held the daughter he had searched for without even knowing she was alive.

Sophia smiled for the first time that day.

The nightmare was finally over.

Or so everyone believed.

Just as Ethan was being led outside...

One detective rushed into the room holding a newly opened file.

"Wait!"

"Nobody leaves."

"We just searched Ethan's private vault."

He placed a faded photograph on the table.

The picture showed three children.

Nathan.

Ethan.

And...

A third little boy.

Sophia frowned.

"Who's that?"

The detective swallowed hard.

"There are birth records."

"School records."

"Medical records."

"The Harrington family didn't have two sons."

"They had three."

Everyone stared at the photograph.

Nathan slowly whispered,

"I don't remember him..."

The detective looked around the room before revealing the final line.

"The third Harrington brother never died."

"He's been watching all of you..."

May you like

"For the last twenty years."
