CHAPTER 9 — The Fall of Wolf
The mountain trembled as steel blast doors sealed every exit.
Red emergency lights flooded the underground fortress.
A cold mechanical voice echoed through the tunnels.
"LOCKDOWN COMPLETE."
The Chairman stood at the center of the command platform with absolute confidence.
"You've spent eight years chasing ghosts," he said calmly. "I've spent forty years building an empire."
He raised his cane.
"End this."
More than a hundred armed operatives advanced.
Mason instinctively stepped in front of the two girls.
"No one touches my family."
Before the first shot could be fired, Ethan looked at his watch.
"Three..."
The Chairman frowned.
"What?"
"Two..."
Rose suddenly understood.
A smile crossed her exhausted face.
"You actually did it."
"One."
The fortress went dark.
Every screen turned black.
Every security camera shut off.
Every electronic lock released with a loud metallic click.
Then hundreds of monitors flickered back to life.
Instead of security feeds...
...they displayed live television broadcasts.
National news.
Federal investigators.
Breaking news banners.
The stolen files Ethan had copied were now being broadcast across the country.
Every face.
Every payment.
Every secret meeting.
Every crime committed by Wolf over four decades.
Nothing was hidden anymore.
The Chairman stared at the screens in disbelief.
"No..."
"This is impossible."
Ethan calmly held up an empty flash drive.
"I told you."
"I never needed this."
"It was only a distraction."
"The real upload started hours ago."
Outside the fortress, sirens echoed across the valley.
Not local police.
Federal agents.
Military helicopters.
Armored vehicles stretched for miles.
Wolf wasn't surrounded by enemies.
It was surrounded by the truth.
Many of the Chairman's own operatives slowly removed their weapons and dropped them onto the floor.
Others fell to their knees.
Years of fear collapsed in seconds.
The Chairman's empire wasn't defeated by bullets.
It was destroyed by exposure.
His eyes slowly drifted toward Mason.
"I offered you everything."
Mason looked at the frightened little girls standing behind him.
"You offered me power."
"They gave me a family."
The Chairman silently raised the pistol hidden inside his cane.
He aimed directly at Mason.
Before anyone could react—
A single gunshot echoed through the command room.
The Chairman staggered backward.
His weapon slipped from his hand.
Everyone turned.
Lily stood twenty feet away, tears streaming down her face.
The pistol trembled in her hands.
"I'm sorry..."
"...but I'm done being your weapon."
The Chairman collapsed onto the steel floor.
For the first time in forty years...
The man who had controlled thousands of lives had no control over his own.
As federal agents stormed the fortress, he looked at Rose one final time.
"I never lost because of Ethan."
"I never lost because of Mason."
He coughed weakly.
"I lost..."
"...because I taught my daughters how to be stronger than me."
His eyes closed.
The Chairman of Wolf was gone.
But Mason knew the hardest part still remained.
The two little girls were staring at each other.
