Chapter 1 - The Mark of the Lost Queen

The salon director’s hand trembled as he wiped the gray filth from the woman’s collarbone. Beneath the grime lay a tattoo—a delicate, inked lily entwined with a jagged dagger. It wasn’t a tattoo of a gang; it was the seal of the Valenti dynasty, the family that had vanished into ash and smoke six years ago.
Dante Serrano, the most feared man in the city, felt his blood run cold. He didn’t reach for his gun; he reached for the truth.
“Elena?” he whispered.
The woman didn't blink. Her eyes, the color of a stormy Atlantic, were vacant, yet they seemed to look through the walls of the salon, through the streets, and into the grave.
“She doesn't know who she is, Mr. Serrano,” the stylist said, terrified, his voice cracking. “But look at the work... this tattoo. It’s authentic. Hand-poked. Only the Valenti inner circle did that.”
Dante shoved the director aside. He gripped the woman’s shoulders—firm, surprisingly muscular beneath the gaunt frame. “Elena Valenti. Everyone said you died in the explosion at the dockyards. Everyone said you burned.”

The woman’s lips parted. Her voice was like dry leaves scraping over stone. “The fire was not hot enough.”
Dante felt a shiver down his spine. The salon was no longer a place of luxury; it was a tomb. If the enemies of the Valenti family knew she was here, the streets of Manhattan would turn red before sunrise. He hadn't just saved a beggar; he had saved the catalyst for a war that would topple his own empire.
