Chapter 6 - The Crown of Ash

The smoke cleared by dawn.
Dante stood on the roof of the headquarters. The city was in chaos, but the corruption that had strangled it for decades was gone. Elena stood beside him, her hair catching the morning light. She looked like a conqueror.
“What happens now?” Dante asked.
“The Valenti name is dead,” she said, her voice soft. “I burned it to the ground.”
“Then what are you?”
She turned to him. There was no coldness left in her eyes—only a profound, weary peace. She touched the spot on her collarbone where the tattoo had been—she had had it removed during the night, the skin now clean.
“I’m nobody,” she said. “And for the first time in my life, that means I can be anyone.”
She leaned in, kissing his cheek—a gesture of thanks, not of love. “Thank you for the ride, Dante. You were the only one who didn't look away.”
She walked toward the private elevator, leaving the keys to the empire on the concrete pedestal. Dante watched her go. She didn't look back. She disappeared into the city, not as a heiress, not as a mafia princess, but as a ghost who had finally finished her business.
Dante Serrano stood alone. He owned the city now. But as he looked out over the skyline, he realized the truth: he hadn't saved the heiress. The heiress had saved the city, and then, she had walked away from the crown he had spent his whole life trying to earn.

He finally understood. The most powerful person in the room isn't the one who commands the empire. It’s the one who can walk away from it without looking back.
The End.
