Chapter 1 - The Bathroom Trap and the Unmasked Imposter

Facebook Hook Title: HE FOLLOWED ME INTO THE LADIES' ROOM—BUT WHAT HE REVEALED ABOUT MY DATE UTTERLY DESTROYED ME! 😱💔The tiles in the restaurant's restroom hallway were cold, but not as cold as the dread pooling in Tessa’s stomach. Her breath hitched as she slammed her back against the wall, her heart hammering against her ribs like a trapped bird.
Footsteps. Heavy, deliberate, and chillingly familiar.
Click. Click. Click.
The heavy oak door at the end of the corridor swung shut, the lock turning with a definitive, terrifying snap. Tessa looked up. Nico Falco stood there, towering, immaculate in his charcoal-grey suit, casting a long, predatory shadow under the dim hallway lights.
"You're tracking me?" Tessa gasped, her voice trembling but defiant. She pressed her hands against the thrift-store green dress, suddenly feeling painfully exposed. "Nico, I am your maid. I clean your floors. You don't own my life!"
Nico didn't answer immediately. He took a slow, agonizing step forward, pulling a gold lighter from his pocket. He didn't light a cigarette; he just flicked the flame on and off, the rhythmic clack-hiss filling the suffocating silence.
"I don't own your life, Tessa?" Nico’s voice was low, a dark purr that vibrated through the narrow hallway. He stopped mere inches from her, trapping her between his massive frame and the wall. The scent of expensive cologne, tobacco, and rain enveloped her. "If I didn't care about your life, you would already be dead. And so would the pathetic little boy sitting out there at table four."
"Simon is a good man!" Tessa snapped, though she shrank back as Nico reached out, a single leather-gloved finger tracing the line of her collarbone.
"Simon is an undercover operative for the Marcone family," Nico whispered, his eyes darkening into twin pools of midnight.
Tessa froze. The air left her lungs. "What?"
"You think it’s a coincidence, Tesina?" Nico leaned down, his lips brushing her ear, sending a terrifying shiver down her spine. "A sweet, ordinary man just happens to sweep my quiet little maid off her feet? He didn’t want your heart, little bird. He wanted the security codes to my cliffside vault. The codes he thought you saw while scrubbing my office."
Tessa’s mind raced. Simon. The sweet accountant she met at the local diner. The man who asked so many innocent-sounding questions about her job.
"You're lying," she breathed, tears stinging her eyes. "You're just trying to control me."
"Am I?" Nico pulled a sleek smartphone from his pocket and tapped the screen. A live audio feed commenced. It was Simon’s voice, speaking softly into a hidden earpiece at the table.
"Yeah, I’ve got the girl," Simon’s recorded voice muttered, completely devoid of the warmth he had shown her minutes ago. "She’s clueless. She thinks I like her. Once I get her back to my place, I’ll get the Falco gate schedule out of her. If she doesn't talk, I'll break her."
Tessa choked back a sob, covering her mouth. Her illusion of a normal life shattered into a thousand bloody pieces.
Nico tucked the phone away, his gaze softening just a fraction, replaced by a terrifying, protective rage. "Now, you have two choices, Tessa. You can walk back out there, finish your date, and let him take you to a slaughterhouse... or you can step behind me, and let the Falco family handle the trash."
Before Tessa could answer, the hallway door burst open. Simon stood there, a forced, anxious smile on his face, but his hand was buried deep inside his jacket pocket.
"Tessa, babe? Everything okay?" Simon asked, his eyes darting frantically to Nico. "Who is this guy?"

Nico turned slowly, shielding Tessa completely behind his broad shoulders. A cruel, blood-chilling smile spread across the mafia boss's face.
"I'm the man who owns the dirt you're about to be buried in," Nico said.
