Chapter 4 - The War for the Maid

Facebook Hook Title: THE ESTATE IS UNDER ATTACK! NICO IS BLEEDING, AND HE JUST HANDED ME A WEAPON... 'SHOOT ANYONE WHO ISN'T ME!' 🔫💥Three weeks passed. Tessa’s life became a gilded nightmare. She no longer cleaned; she wore expensive silks, ate fine dining, and spent her days looking out the high windows of the cliffside mansion. Nico treated her like a fragile glass doll by day, and an absolute obsession by night. She was falling for him—a terrifying, Stockholm-like pull that she couldn't fight. His darkness called to the hidden depths of her own soul.

But peace in the mafia never lasts.

It happened at 3:00 AM.

A deafening explosion rocked the cliffside estate. The bulletproof glass in the master bedroom shattered as a mortar shell hit the courtyard below. The alarms shrieked, a piercing wail that signaled total breach.

Tessa bolted upright in bed, screaming as smoke poured into the room.

Within seconds, the door crashed open. Nico stood there, but he wasn't the immaculate Don anymore. His shirt was torn, covered in soot, and a deep gash on his forehead was pouring blood down his handsome face. He held an assault rifle in one hand and a silver pistol in the other.

"Marcone’s men," Nico growled, rushing to the bed and pulling Tessa into his arms. "They hit the perimeter gates. They're inside the house."

"Nico, you're bleeding!" she cried, reaching up to touch his face.

"It's not my blood," he said grimly. He jammed the silver pistol into her trembling hands. "Listen to me, Tesina. My men are holding the grand staircase, but a small strike team bypassed them through the servant tunnels. They are coming for you."

"Me? Why?"

"To hold you hostage. To force me to surrender the docks," Nico said, his eyes burning with a manic, protective fury. He gripped her face in his hands, pressing a hard, desperate kiss to her lips. "I would burn this entire city to ash before I let them take you. Do you understand me? If anyone walks through that door and it isn't me... you pull this trigger until it goes click."

"Nico, don't leave me!" she begged as he backed toward the door.

"I have to end this, Tessa. Tonight, the Marcone family dies."

With that, Nico vanished into the smoky hallway, the sounds of heavy gunfire and agonizing screams echoing from the stairwell.

Tessa crouched behind the massive oak bed, her hands shaking violently as she aimed the heavy pistol at the door. Minutes felt like hours. The gunfire downstairs grew louder, then suddenly... completely silent.

The silence was worse.

Thud. Thud. Thud.

Footsteps approached the master bedroom. Someone was dragging a heavy weight.

Tessa raised the gun, tears blurring her vision. The door handle jiggled. The door slowly clicked open.

A figure stepped through the smoke. It was a man, but he was wearing a tactical uniform. He lifted his visor.

Tessa gasped. It wasn't Nico.

It was Simon.
