Chapter 3 - The Golden Cage

Facebook Hook Title: LOCKED IN THE MAFIA BOSS'S BEDROOM! SHE THOUGHT SHE WAS A MAID, BUT HE JUST ASSIGNED HER A NEW ROLE... 👑🗝️The drive back to the Falco estate was dead silent. The rain lashed against the bulletproof windows of the Range Rover like an angry sea. Tessa stared out at the dark coastline, her thrift-store dress feeling damp and heavy against her skin.

When they arrived, Nico didn't let her go to the servant's quarters. He gripped her elbow—firmly, but without hurting her—and led her up the grand sweeping staircase, past the locked rooms, straight to the master wing.

He threw open the double doors to his private bedroom. It was a massive, oppressive space of dark wood, leather, and a king-sized bed draped in black silk.

"You stay here tonight," Nico stated, tossing his keys onto the dresser.

"No," Tessa pushed back, backing toward the hallway. "My room is in the basement with the other staff. I need to wash my uniform for tomorrow—"

"You are never wearing that uniform again," Nico interrupted, his voice dropping into a dangerous register. He walked over to a massive walk-in closet, pulled out a silk emerald-green robe, and tossed it onto the bed. "And you are no longer the maid."

Tessa’s breath hitched. "What are you saying? Are you firing me? Nico, I need this job! My mother’s medical bills—"

"Your mother's bills have been paid in full as of twenty minutes ago," Nico said casually, pouring himself a glass of bourbon. "Every cent. She is currently being moved to a private clinic in Switzerland under my family’s protection."

Tessa felt the room spin. He had stripped away her independence, her excuses, her entire reality in the span of a single evening.

"Why?" she whispered, her voice cracking. "Why are you doing this to me?"

Nico walked over, holding the glass of bourbon, his gaze locked onto hers. The sheer intensity of his presence made it hard for her to breathe.

"Because the Marcone family knows who you are now, Tessa. They think you are my weakness. They think they can use you to get to me. And the worst part is..." Nico paused, his jaw tightening as he set the glass down, his hands catching her waist, pulling her flush against his chest. "...they are absolutely right."

Tessa’s heart skipped a beat. His chest was hard, his heart beating a fierce, steady rhythm against her cheek.

"You are my weakness, Tessa. I’ve watched you for a year. Scrubbing my floors, keeping your head down, pretending you don't see the blood. You thought you were invisible? I know every sigh you make. I know the exact shade of green that makes your eyes shine. I let you go on that date tonight to prove to you that the world outside this fortress is cruel. But inside here... you are queen."

May you like

"I don't want to be a mafia queen," Tessa whispered, even as her body betrayed her, leaning into his warmth.

"Too late," Nico murmured, his lips hovering just millimeters from hers. "You're in my world now. And I don't let go of what's mine."
