Chapter 2: The Secret Everyone Forgot

Victor stormed toward the enclosure.
"Make them attack!"
The trainers immediately entered.
They shouted commands.
Whistles blew.
Electric prods crackled.
But the dogs refused.
Instead, they gathered around Isabella protectively.
The largest mastiff even stood between her and the approaching trainers.
Its teeth flashed.
A warning.
The crowd began whispering.
Victor felt control slipping away.
He hated that feeling.
Then an old man suddenly stepped forward from the spectators.
His name was Gabriel.
Many years earlier, he had worked at Victor's estate before disappearing from public life.
His face turned pale as he looked at Isabella.
"My God..."
Victor frowned.
"What?"
Gabriel pointed toward a small silver pendant hanging from Isabella's neck.
The pendant had been hidden beneath her shirt.
Until now.
The old man's voice trembled.
"I know that necklace."
Isabella looked confused.
"My mother gave it to me."
Gabriel's eyes filled with tears.
"No..."
Victor grabbed the pendant and stared.
A symbol was engraved on the back.
A symbol only a few people recognized.
Gabriel collapsed to his knees.
"She is Elena's daughter."
Victor suddenly froze.
The name struck him like lightning.
Elena.
Twenty-two years ago.
Before power.
Before crime.
Before blood.
There had been a woman.
A woman Victor once loved more than anything.
She had disappeared while pregnant.
Everyone believed she had died.
Victor searched for years.
Then eventually buried the memory.
Or at least tried to.
Gabriel slowly revealed the truth.
Elena had fled after discovering Victor's growing involvement with organized crime.
She wanted her child far away from violence.
She changed her name.
Raised the girl alone.
And never told Isabella who her father was.
The crowd stood in stunned silence.
Victor looked at Isabella.
For the first time.
Really looked.
Her eyes.
Her face.
Her stubbornness.
The way she refused to bow.
Suddenly everything made sense.
The same fire.
The same courage.
The same spirit as Elena.
His daughter.
The realization hit him harder than any bullet ever could.
The girl he had sentenced to death was his own child.
Victor staggered backward.
For the first time in decades.
The feared mafia boss looked terrified.
Meanwhile, one of the dogs gently rested its head against Isabella's hand.
Gabriel smiled sadly.
"Elena volunteered at animal shelters."
He looked at Isabella.
"You've been rescuing abandoned dogs your whole life, haven't you?"
Isabella nodded.
The crowd finally understood.
The dogs had recognized kindness.
The very thing they had never received from anyone else.
Victor stared at the daughter he never knew.
And deep inside, something began to break.
Years of cruelty.
Years of pride.
May you like
Years of darkness.
For the first time, he felt ashamed.
