Chapter 4 - The Game of Mirrors

"What is the meaning of this?!" Julian demanded, his voice cracking as the federal agents stepped forward.

The lead agent, a stern woman with a badge clipped to her belt, looked directly at Julian. "Julian Sterling, you are under arrest for corporate fraud, embezzlement, and the unlawful confinement and identity theft of Elena Sterling."

Victoria let out a shrill scream. "I knew it! I knew she was a thief! Take her away!"

"Quiet, Mrs. Sterling," the agent snapped, turning her gaze to Victoria. "You are also under arrest as an accessory to these crimes, alongside the physical abuse and human trafficking of a minor."

The boardroom erupted into chaos. Shareholders shouted, phones rang off the hook, and flashbulbs began to go off as press members—who had been anonymously tipped off by Alejandro—forced their way into the room.

Julian looked at Alejandro, his eyes wide with betrayal. "Elena? You... you're Elena? No, that’s impossible. My sister died. My father told me she died!"

Alejandro stepped forward, her voice calm, echoing clearly over the noise. "Your father lied to you to keep the inheritance for himself, Julian. And when you found out five years ago, instead of looking for me, you helped him cover it up. When Victoria found me working at that agency two years ago, she recognized my face from your family records. Instead of telling the truth, you both decided to enslave me in your own home to ensure I would never discover who I was."

"No! I didn't know!" Julian pleaded, tears finally spilling over his eyes as handcuffs clicked around his wrists. "I swear, I thought you were just a maid! Victoria told me she hired you randomly! I swear!"

Victoria struggled against the agents holding her. "You coward! You knew! You loved having her scrub your floors knowing she was the rightful billionaire! You're just as guilty as I am!"

As the disgraced couple was dragged out of the boardroom in front of the flashing cameras of the world's media, Alejandro stood at the head of the table. The board members stared at her in absolute awe and terror.

She picked up the silver flash drive. She had won. The company was hers. The mansion was hers. The Sterling name belonged to her.

But as she walked out of the building into the crisp evening air, a sleek black SUV pulled up to the curb. The window rolled down, revealing an elderly man with a oxygen mask and piercing, familiar dark eyes.
