Chapter 7 - THE RECKONING

By 4:00 AM, the Falcone estate was swarming with federal agents—not the corrupt local police Julian had bragged about, but the highest levels of the Department of Justice, whom Adriano had personally contacted using the undeniable video evidence.

Julian Moretti and Genevieve Falcone were led out of the basement in handcuffs, surrounded by federal officers.

Genevieve looked utterly destroyed. Her expensive silver dress was torn and covered in dust from the basement, her pristine hair wild and matted. As she was being led toward the black federal van, she spotted Rebecca standing on the front porch, wrapped in a clean, warm coat, holding Clementine.

“This isn't fair!” Genevieve shrieked, hysterical. “She’s just a maid! You’re throwing away your life for a servant, Adriano!”

Adriano stepped to the front of the porch, looking down at his ex-wife with utter coldness.

“She is not a maid, Genevieve,” Adriano said, his voice echoing across the driveway. “She is the widow of the man who gave me my life. And you are nothing.”

The doors of the police van slammed shut, cutting off Genevieve’s screams forever. Julian was tossed into a separate vehicle, facing charges of attempted murder, first-degree murder, and federal racketeering—charges that guaranteed he would spend the rest of his life in a maximum-security prison.

The line of police cars drove down the long, tree-lined driveway, their red and blue lights fading into the pre-dawn darkness.

The estate went quiet again.

Adriano turned around to face Rebecca. The sun was just beginning to rise over the horizon, casting a warm, golden glow across the marble terrace where, just hours before, Rebecca had been humiliated.

“What will happen to us now?” Rebecca asked quietly, looking around at the empty, quiet mansion. “We have nowhere to go.”

Adriano walked toward her and knelt down in front of Clementine, who was rubbing her sleepy eyes.

“You will never have to ask why people are laughing at your mommy’s tears again, Clementine,” Adriano said gently to the little girl.

He then stood up and looked into Rebecca’s eyes.

“Thomas gave me a second chance at life,” Adriano said, his voice ringing with absolute sincerity. “Half of everything I own—the estates, the businesses, the accounts—is officially being transferred into a trust fund for you and Clementine today. You are a multi-millionaire, Rebecca.”

Rebecca gasped, stepping back. “No... Adriano, I can’t take your money!”

“It isn't my money,” Adriano corrected softly. “It is the debt I owe to Thomas. You will never scrub another floor. You will never have to take orders from anyone again. You and Clementine are safe.”
