Chapter 5 - The Trap is Sprung

Hook: Julian thought he had won the war. He didn't realize Daniel Whitmore never plays a game he hasn't already rigged.
The next morning, the business world was rocked to its core. The Berlin acquisition conference was packed with international journalists. Julian Vance walked into the room with the arrogance of a king, ready to input the stolen bid numbers and bankrupt the Whitmore group.
Daniel sat at the main table, looking entirely unbothered, sipping black coffee. There was no sign of panic on his face, even though Anna was gone and his ring had been returned.
"The bidding is open," the minister announced.
Julian confidently entered his numbers—exactly one dollar over Daniel’s stolen bid file. He smirked across the room at Daniel. "Game over, Whitmore," he mouthed.
"The bids are locked," the minister stated, reviewing the digital ledger. Suddenly, the minister’s face turned pale. He looked up at Julian with an expression of utter shock. "Mr. Vance... your bid constitutes a massive violation of anti-monopoly laws and security fraud. The numbers you submitted match an intentionally falsified government sting file."
Julian’s smile froze. "What? That's impossible! Those are Whitmore’s numbers!"
Suddenly, the heavy doors of the conference hall burst open. Four federal agents walked in, handcuffs drawn.
Daniel stood up, casually buttoning his suit jacket. He walked over to Julian, his eyes flashing with a cold, terrifying brilliance.
"Did you really think I didn't know you were bugging my study, Julian?" Daniel whispered, his voice dripping with venom. "Did you really think I didn't notice the microphone you planted? I knew about the audio recording the day you made it."
Julian stumbled back, sweat pouring down his face. "You... you set me up? But Anna gave me the files!"
"Anna gave you exactly what I told her to give you," Daniel lied smoothly, protecting Anna’s reputation to the end, even though his heart had shattered when he found her gone. "I fed you poison, Julian. And you swallowed it whole."

As the feds dragged a screaming Julian out of the room, Daniel’s victory felt completely hollow. He had won the empire, but he had lost the woman who had brought his home back to life.
He pulled out his phone and called his head of security. "Find Anna. Track her phone, trace her transit cards, use every satellite we own. Find her now."
