Kelechi sat at the head of the polished oak table in the grand boardroom, staring at a comprehensive financial audit report compiled by his external forensic investigators.
His face was carved from granite. Every single line in the report confirmed his worst fears.
Over the past three years, nearly four billion naira had been systematically embezzled from the corporate treasury through dummy subsidiaries. The signatures authorizing the fraudulent transfers belonged exclusively to two people: his cousin Chike, and his mother, Beatrice.
“Where... where did you get this audit trail?” Chike stammered, sweating profusely as he stood at the other end of the boardroom table, his voice cracking with panic.
“It doesn't matter where it came from, Chike,” Kelechi’s voice boomed across the silent room, vibrating with a terrifying, controlled fury. “What matters is that you and Mother have been bleeding this company dry behind my back.”
Just then, the heavy double doors of the boardroom swung open.
Chief Mrs. Beatrice Okafor marched in, draped in expensive silk, her face twisted in absolute arrogance. “Kelechi! What is the meaning of this nonsense? You are investigating your own flesh and blood over some anonymous computer files? Where is your loyalty?!”
Kelechi stood up slowly, looking at his mother not with filial respect, but with cold, unforgiving disgust.
“Loyalty, Mother?” Kelechi asked, tossing the thick audit folder onto the table. “You forged corporate signatures, stole billions from shareholders, and when a young woman discovered your discrepancies, you framed her for theft and threw her out on the street.”

Beatrice paled, catching her breath. “That... that worthless maid? You’re believing a servant over your own family?!”
“That servant,” Kelechi said, his voice dropping to an icy whisper, “had more integrity in her little finger than both of you combined. And right now... federal economic investigators are walking through our lobby with warrants for your arrest.”
