On a bright Saturday afternoon, the sun glistened off the Atlantic ocean as I stood on the grand balcony, wearing a simple elegant dress, sipping my favorite spiced tea.
My phone buzzed on the patio table. A notification from the federal economic crimes court popped up: FINAL JUDGMENT: BEATRICE AND CHIKE OKAFOR CONVICTED ON ALL COUNTS OF FRAUD AND EMBEZZLEMENT. SENTENCED TO TEN YEARS IMPRISONMENT.
The chapter was finally, permanently closed.
Footsteps echoed softly behind me. Strong, familiar arms wrapped gently around my waist, pulling me back against a warm, steady chest.
“What are you thinking about, my brilliant director?” Kelechi murmured against my hair.

I leaned back into his embrace, resting my hands over his. “Just thinking about how ironic life is, Kelechi. You thought hiring a maid meant bringing someone beneath you into your home. You didn't realize you were inviting a storm that would clear out all the rot.”
Kelechi chuckled, kissing my temple tenderly. “Best hiring mistake I ever made in my entire life.”
