Chapter 8 - The Queen of the BoardroomOne week later, the glass boardroom of Okafor Holdings looked entirely different.

The corrupt board members had either resigned in disgrace or been replaced by independent financial regulators.

At the center of the massive mahogany table sat Managing Director Amara Nwosu, wearing a sharp, tailored emerald-green blazer, reviewing the newly restructured corporate compliance ledger.

Seated quietly near the back of the room, listening intently without a single word of interruption, was Kelechi. He had stepped down as sole chairman to undergo a mandatory external audit of his own executive oversight, humbly serving as a senior advisor under my direct authority.

The transition sent shockwaves through the Lagos business elite. The poor, dismissed housemaid had not only cleared her name—she had taken over the entire corporate hierarchy.

During a short recess, as the senior executives filed out of the room, Kelechi lingered behind, walking slowly toward the head of the table.

“You’re running this place better than I ever did,” Kelechi admitted with a faint, self-deprecating smile.

“That’s because I built my strength from the ground up, Kelechi,” I replied smoothly, looking up from my tablet. “You inherited yours.”

Kelechi nodded slowly, his expression turning serious. “Amara... is there any room left in your life, or your heart, for a man who had to lose everything to finally see the truth?”

I paused, looking at the man who had once ordered me to kneel and polish marble floors—a man who had humbled himself completely to earn a second chance.

A slow, warm smile touched my lips.

“Well, Mr. Okafor,” I said softly, standing up from my chair. “The boardroom has an opening for a loyal partner. But you’ll have to prove you know how to make your own coffee.”
