Chapter 10 - A NEW DAWNSix months later.

The morning sun broke over the rolling green hills of a quiet seaside farm in coastal Maine.
The air smelled of fresh salt water, pine trees, and blooming wild lavender. No luxury SUVs, no high-society galas, no gilded cages.
I sat on the wooden porch of our new home, holding a warm cup of coffee, watching the ocean waves roll against the rocky shore.
The front door opened, and Chloe ran out onto the grass.
She wore a bright yellow sundress, her hair tied back in loose curls, her skin rosy and glowing with health. She held a sketchbook in one hand and a set of watercolor brushes in the other.
"Mommy! Look!" she called out, running up the porch steps with a radiant smile that reached her eyes.
She held up her painting.
It was a picture of a cozy house by the sea under a bright blue sky. On the porch sat two figures: a mother wearing an emerald scarf, and a little girl holding her hand.
Above them, written in neat, confident handwriting, were the words:
“OUR HOME. OUR REAL LIFE.”
There were no locks. No cellar doors. No dark squares. No fear.
I pulled my daughter into my lap, wrapping my arms around her tight, burying my face in her soft hair as she giggled and hugged me back.
"It's beautiful, Chloe," I whispered, tears of pure joy slipping down my cheek. "It's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen."
The money from my father's trust was now channeled into a national foundation I created—The Safe Haven Project—dedicated to building legal defense funds and emergency shelters for mothers and children trapped in domestic, psychological, and financial abuse.
I had been hidden in the shadows for seven years. I had been forced to wear a uniform just to see my own child.
But as I looked out at the infinite horizon of the open ocean with Chloe safe in my arms, I knew one thing with absolute certainty:
May you like
They tried to bury us. They forgot that we were seeds.
