Chapter 2 - The Silent Passenger

A secret compartment, a GPS tracker, and the husband who wasn't where he said he was.Valeria did not confront Alejandro when he returned home.

Instead, she played the part of the doting, unsuspecting wife. She claimed she had a slight migraine and couldn't wear the dress just yet, leaving it draped carefully over a mannequin in her walk-in closet. Alejandro’s disappointment was brief, masked by his usual charm, but Valeria caught the momentary tightening of his jaw, the cold flash in his dark eyes.

That night, while Alejandro slept deeply beside her, Valeria slipped out of bed.

She took the dress into the master bathroom, locking the door. Guided by a strange, instinctual desperation, she began examining every single seam. If there was a note hidden in the neckline, what else was stitched into this cursed garment?

Her fingers brushed against the hemline. The fabric there felt slightly stiffer, heavier.

Using a small pair of sewing scissors, she carefully snipped the delicate silk thread of the inner lining.

Something hard and metallic fell out into her palm.

It was a tiny, sleek black device no larger than a coin. A GPS tracking tile, still blinking with a faint, microscopic green light. It was active.

Suddenly, her phone vibrated in her pocket. It was an unknown number.

She answered, her heart hammering against her ribs.

"Valeria," a voice whispered. It was Natalia, calling from a burner phone. "You need to get out of the apartment. Now."

"What? Why? What did you find?"

"I went back to the old guest house at our family’s estate in Valle de Bravo," Natalia said, her voice trembling. "The floorboards. Just like the note said. Valeria... I found Natalia Kramarenko’s passport, her jewelry, and a diary. She wasn't just Alejandro's mistress. She was blackmailing him. She had proof that Alejandro’s logistics company wasn't shipping electronics. They've been laundering money for the cartels through Monterrey."

Valeria felt the air leave her lungs. "And the dress?"

"The dress was a trap," Natalia sobbed. "The tracker inside... it’s not just a tracker. It's linked to a silent alarm. The moment the dress is worn and moves past a certain coordinate, it alerts them. Valeria, Alejandro didn't buy that dress for you because he loves you. He bought it to frame you. He’s going to make you the scapegoat for Kramarenko's disappearance."

Before Valeria could reply, she heard a soft click.

The bathroom door handle was slowly turning.
